I have called recently telephoned the Fakenham Greenway Lane surgery to ask about registering as a new patient. Unfortunately, when I spoke in confidence (regarding my disability) to a female member of the reception team. I was very disappointed at her abrupt tone and manner towards me, which was awful. This has left me feeling traumatised, and discriminated against. Please could you reassure patients registered at this surgery, that the reception staff have a duty of care to patients/customers.

From the moment when I phoned the surgery early in the morning to request a same-day appointment I knew I was in good hands: the receptionist was helpful and the triage nurse I spoke to was efficient, and made an appointment for me within the hour. The nurse who examined me was friendly and competent, and gave me a medical prescription which I collected from the pharmacy. My queries there were answered by an assistant and a pharmacist, in a friendly and concerned manner. At all times I felt that I was of importance to the staff throughout the surgery.

My experience of the pharmacy this morning was very abrupt and rude from the gentleman that assisted me. I am utterly disgusted with the way he responded when I told him I thought I had tonsilitus (bearing in mind I have had it many times before and with evident white spots on the tonsils I knew after trying anti inflammatory and paracetamol it was antibiotics I needed) I was told, 'what else did you expect? Tonsilitus is so generalised so antibiotics aren't prescribed. I was also told that stepsils are glorified sweets so wouldn't have done anything anyway. He didn't even look into my throat or ask any questions regarding how long or what symptoms I had had. I felt fobbed off with a throat spray that is used for a swollen throat NOT white spots. He told me to use it whenever I needed it however reading the instructions it stated every 3-4 hours. Very dissapointed with this service especially when I use the pharmacy and haven't had this response before.

I saw Dr Slomka. He was kind and easy to talk to. He took my concerns seriously and treated me with respect. I would recommend this doctor. The surgery as a whole provided an excellent service.

The good points: Receptionist was very helpful as was the nurse. Bad points: I tried to make an appointment over the telephone to see the nurse for a repeat prescription. The receptionist informed me that I would not be able to book an appointment with the nurse until after the Easter weekend some 9days away. The only option would be to book an appointment through the triage system (anyone who works full time will understand the difficulty in leaving work to attend an appointment during the working day). Good points: Once you get an appointment the service is very good.

We apologise for the difficulty you experienced in trying to make an appointment to see a nurse for a repeat prescription. There is a facility at the practice website to order a repeat prescription at www.fakenham-medical-practice.nhs.uk . On the left hand side select Online Service & Repeat Prescriptions and then follow the instructions. You need to have registered with the practice to obtain a User Name and Password to be able to access this service. You could also have left a message for your GP to contact you after the morning surgery and discuss your requirement. He may have been able to authorise a repeat prescription for you to collect at a time which is convenient for you. There is also an extended hours service which allows anyone who works full time to attend for a GP and or nurse appointment between 07:30 and 8 a.m. on a Monday morning and 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on a Monday evening 7 and 8 a.m. on a Tuesday or a Friday morning.
