20th March 2014

This department is a very new, modern and very well maintained facility ... an excellent environment for staff and patients alike. At the time of my appointment (0900hrs, March 20 2014) it was very busy, not surprising given very few available sessions for 'lumps and bumps' per week. When my name was called, I was greeted by another Doctor (I think) and there was yet another person present along with Dr.Walton, but it was never explained why. Dr.Walton was very pleasant, polite, professional but a little perfunctory ... she spent next to no time, literally a few seconds, looking at the facial marks. She spoke very quickly, didn't really explain much, and gave a standard offering by way of treatment, to be passed to the GP. I did press for a biopsy to be taken which she conceded and I was out through the door, in theory with an appointment in two months time. However, when it came to booking the session it was in fact three months, as Dr.Walton was taking time off ... something she could have mentioned. Unfortunately I was left with an impression, on this occasion, that hers was a great job spoilt only by the patients. I'm sure she was very experienced (in fact she told me so!) but she did lack 'warmth'. She did speak with knowledge about my situation, never needing to consult the medical equivalent of Google so often manifest with today's (younger) GP's. To be fair, her normal 'warmth' was freely evident in her interaction with the doctor and the nursing staff, during my biopsy, she was very affable in fact. This was lovely to see, I would suggest she show this more in her interactions with patients during first consultations ... I'm sure she is better for knowing. There was a reasonable wait (80mins or so) for the biopsy to be taken, but the surgery was very pleasant, the Doctor performing the biopsy and the two nurses attending went about there task with great care and good humour. They had a great working relationship and took time to explain everything. The whole process was entirely pain free, a not unpleasant experience. Chris, a 64yr old male.

I liked that she explained things and asked questions. The appointment felt a little rushed and she cut me off a couple of times but on the whole i'm really pleased she's going to help me get better and we agreed a plan to go forward.

I attended the Dermatology Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary on 17th March 2014 and was seen by doctor Walton at 10.00am. She made an immediate diagnosis, explained fully what was required and offered minor surgery to be performed within the next hour. All the staff were efficient, caring, courteous and most professional. By mid day the operation was over and I was on my way home. Thank you all at HRI. Moira Douglas

I was referred to Doctor Shernaz Walton after seeing my GP 2 days earlier. Dr Shernaz Walton is a consummate professional and as such her explanation of the problem, and the consequential treatment, was spot on. Very impressed by the whole scenario really, a very quick response for a problem that needed an urgent professional diagnosis and treatment. I have private cover but who needs it when the NHS is this good!
