Professor Piers Daubeney is a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist with a national and international reputation. As a Professor of Practice at Imperial College, Prof Daubeney has a research team looking at the causes and innovative new treatments for congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathy. He has written more than 95 scientific papers and articles, 5 textbooks and been awarded several prestigious research awards. Prof Daubeney treats a wide range of cardiological conditions in infants, children, adolescents and young adults including: • Heart murmurs - ECG and echocardiographic evaluation • Congenital heart disease - both paediatric and adult congenital. He uses the latest diagnostic techniques to evaluate and manage structural and functional heart problems including valve and coronary disease • Acquired heart disease such as Kawasaki disease, myocarditis and cardiomyopathy • Arrhythmias- investigation and management • Generalised diseases requiring cardiac monitoring such as Marfan, Ehlers Danlos, Noonan syndromes, and muscular dystrophies • Hypertension - investigation and management • Cardiac surgery - joint management and close liaison with selected cardiac surgeons- expertise in all types of congenital and acquired heart surgery in babies, children, teenagers and young adults • Catheter intervention - joint management and close liaison with selected catheter interventionalists - expertise in all types of congenital and acquired cardiac intervention in babies, children, teenagers and young adults Prof Piers Daubeney has specialised expertise in managing symptoms suggestive of an underlying heart conditions such as: • Chest pain • Palpitations and tachycardia (sensation of a fluttering, fast, pounding or irregular heart beat) • Syncope, blackouts, faints and 'funny turns', POTS • Blue spells and colour change Prof Piers Daubeney also has particular expertise in managing: • Cardiomyopathy and sudden death- at the Royal Brompton Hospital he jointly runs the Family Cardiomyopathy Service • Athletes with suspected cardiac conditions • Children with adverse cardiac family history Prof Piers Daubeney is meticulous in making a comprehensive assessment of each patient.
