My optician diagnosed cataracts in both eyes, and I decided to book an appointment with Mr Naylor. His manner was highly professional, most reassuring and the whole procedure went very smoothly , especially since I had astigmatism which required special lenses. I cannot recommend him more highly, and I am highly delighted with the result.

A friend recommended Steven Naylor ‘because he’s the best’, and they were right! He wears his knowledge lightly, but I felt at all times that I was in expert hands. I particularly appreciated the time he took to explain procedures and options. He made everything clear, without ever sounding patronising. The operation was a complete success, and much less pricey than I’d feared it might be. It was worth every penny, and I would wholeheartedly recommend Steven Naylor to anyone considering eye surgery.

Fabulous treatment for cataracts in both eyes - excellent pre and post operative explanation. Mr Naylor has a way of putting the patient at ease and nothing was too much trouble. Good advice on the type of toric lens resulting in great vision in both eyes.

I was fortunate to be given an appointment with Mr Naylor at York Teaching Hospital, for a cataract removal. Mr Naylor put me at ease prior to the operation, explaining the whole procedure and assuring me that I would not feel any pain. I certainly did not feel any pain or discomfort whatsoever and would thoroughly recommend him as an extremely professional and excellent surgeon. I am very grateful to him.

Profile

Born and raised in Hull, I was proud to graduate with honours from Leeds Medical School in 2008 as one of the top performing medical students of my year. I completed my ophthalmology training in Yorkshire where I was amongst the first of my trainee cohort to achieve the coveted CertLRS for refractive surgery, a testament to my ambition and determination to strive to be the best. To further my expertise I undertook a year of advanced sub-specialty training in cornea and refractive surgery at St James's University Teaching Hospital, one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals. My training has afforded me a wealth and depth of experience in precision eye care, and an uncompromising attitude towards the delivery of an outstanding patient experience. I always put my patients first.
I am the NHS consultant lead for cataract surgery at York Teaching Hospital. I also co-run the emergency eye care service. I regularly teach medical students and surgical trainees, I am a trainer on the microsurgical skills course run by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and I am the college tutor for York trainee ophthalmologists.
I specialise in complex cataract surgery and intraocular lens work. I have performed over 4000 cataract operations with visual outcomes surpassing the national standards cited by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. My experience in emergency eye care means I am very skilled in dealing with a wide range of eye problems. Now residing in York my hard work, integrity and professionalism have enabled me to establish a successful private practice working at both the Nuffield Hospital in York and the Spire Hospital in Hull.
I consider myself very fortunate to call the beautiful county of Yorkshire my home and in my spare time regularly enjoy country walks and bike rides with my wife, children and dog.
