I have just found this place to leave a review. For 20+ years I have struggled with mental health issues and was very rarely not depressed. I have researched my illness for years and have been ignored by doctors (who think they know you better than you know yourself) when I have begged for help to 'just feel normal'. Then I hit crisis point (I won't go into detail but it was awful). I am a single mother of 3 and just could not cope with everything life threw at me. I researched my illness continuously, trying to figure out what I needed to do to help me get better. I was referred to Dr Birrell a couple of years ago and I sat and had an honest discussion about medication and what I thought would work for me and he was willing to let me try it. I had 1 session with Dr Birrell and I can honestly say I have not been depressed for even a day since I started on this medication. I have not had to see a Doctor once since then about my illness except to have a review (I would be at the Doctors approx. every 3 months saying nothing was working, please give me something else) 20 years I suffered!! Anyway, this guy is a fantastic Doctor and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him - if you are desperate and you can afford to see him privately, I wouldn't hesitate! Thanks Dr B :)
Dr birrel was great. I felt at ease from the first moment we met. 8ve seen loads of professionals in my life. Dr Birrel the beat I've had.
Dr Steve Birrell, is the first psychiatrist that I've met that treats me as an equal. He always asks me what do I want to do about my medication, whereas every other psychiatrist I've met tells me what they think would be best. Dr Birrell and i discuss as equals, what treatments would be best, unfortunately governmental policies dictate that I can't have the treatments we agree would benefit many patients myself included.
