Mr Bittar has performed life changing, probably life saving, bypass surgery on me this year. Before i had the surgery so many people I'd spoken to gave testimony to the quality of staff and care at the Victoria cardiac centre and i found all that to be true. In addition to the great skill sets i found Mr Bittar and all levels of staff to be genial, approachable and caring.

Truly great man Mr Bittar was the consumate professional and most caring person, always there to answer any questions or concearns and visited his patients every day to see how i was doing whilst i was in hospital

Mr Bittar was sympathetic and understanding of my problem and listened to my concerns. My treatment was carried out swiftly following diagnosis and the aftercare was far better than I could have expected.
My only concern was that on being discharged I was told that a follow up appointment would be made in 6 to 8 weeks. This was not factual and indeed I have since learned and had confirmed by Mr Bittar that this in reality is 8 to 10 weeks. This information needs updating with ward personnel so as not to cause anxiety and un necessary calls to the hospital.

Being an 80 year old patient I was apprehensive at the thought of an aeortic valve replacement and double bypass surgery. However I now know that I should not have worried. I was very fortunate to have been placed under care of Mr Bittar and his team at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital. From the start of the procedures, everything was carried out very professionally. I could not have received a more efficient service of care. It was excellent. With the expertise of Mr Bittar and the support of his team my operation was carried out successfully. I was kept informed by Mr Bittar,s secretary Anne thoughtout the period leading up to the operation for which I offer my thanks.I was home within 6 days and discharged within 15 weeks. I am now on the way to a full recovery and looking forward to playing golf again. Every game I play I will think of the fact that he gave me the opportunity to extend my retirement pleasures. I would like to extend my thanks to Mr Bitttar. He is person who has earned my total admiration. He is a true 5 star surgeon. Please continue to use your special talents. M Fairbrother

Mr Bittar explained everything to me about my heart surgery and although I was nervous I knew I had the best surgeon, and someone who I could trust. The overall care was excellent and I felt I was treated with respect and as an individual. Mr Bittar is an excellent surgeon and a genuine person, he is 100% Gent and down to earth, I owe him so much for what he did.
Profile
I am a cardiothoracic surgeon, my practice is mixed. In cardiac surgery I have a special interest in aortic surgery, minimally invasive aortic surgery, I also perform the general cardiac operations ( CABG, OPCAB and valve surgery). In thoracic surgery, I deal with chest wall, lung, pleural and mediastinal surgical diseases. I have special interest in the minimally invasive approach (video assisted thoracoscopic procedures-VATS lobectomy) and fractured ribs fixation.
I am interested in research; my qualification is a Medical Doctorate M.D. from Manchester University in 2007. My thesis was based on inflammatory response to the use of cardiopulmonary bypass in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This response was linked to certain genotypes of a certain polymorphisms.
My current affiliation is with the University of Salford, I am collaborating with researchers studying the myocardial cell dysfunction, the inflammatory response and its effect on the conduits that used in cardiac surgery.Recently I was appointed as a professor (Hon)@ the University of Salford.
