After two pretty dismal experiences I was referred to the RNOH - for which I will be eternally grateful. A place that is a centre of excellence - and so it is. I really like the concept of this being a place where Private Health Care bumps into the excellent NHS. All profits from the private side going back into the hospital. Mark Falworth is a Surgeon / Consultant of excellence, as is the rest of the team that work with him. At the initial consultation he told me that he was going away for 3 weeks on a lecture tour and as he liked to see his patients through did not want to operate on me until his return. I took this with a pinch of salt. How wrong can you be! I was the 2nd patient he dealt on on his return. Apart from being with an outstanding operating team, his undoubted excellence etc etc his duty of care in seeing his patients through is of a 24 carat gold standard. He saw and checked up on me every single day I was in the hospital. He ensured that I did not leave with a leaking wound. He advised that whilst every effort had been made to ensure success that things did not always go to plan and if I encountered any problems that I was to come straight back. I saw him today and he confirmed that the last operation had been successful. I can't thank him and his team enough. Truly, truly outstanding. Mark Falworth

Dr Falworth took great care of me following a car accident. He has been really clear and thorough at explaining my shoulder injuries to me and the surgery he was suggesting. He clearly had a lot of experience with shoulder injuries which gave me the comfort of being in capable hand. As a bonus to his excellent professional skills, he is also a very friendly and kind person who is easy to trust. He has been great, I would highly recommend him.

Mr Falworth replaced my wife's shoulder in the recent past and when I had a problem with my right shoulder I knew exactly where to go. In line with other other reviews I can only agree in every way and possibly amplify the comments. He dealt with my sense of humour along with my shoulder in clearly defining the problem and the resolution (to the shoulder) Wish all clinicians presented in the same way...........

Profile

My practice is solely limited to the multidisciplinary management of conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow. Patients’ needs, and the use of physiotherapy and interventional radiology techniques, are always considered before surgical solutions are discussed and utilised. All treatments are evidence based and reflect the exacting standards that I adhere to in my role as a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

I qualified in Medicine from King’s College Hospital, London in 1996 and underwent my higher specialist orthopaedic training on the St Mary’s Hospital rotation in London. I then undertook a further two years of specialist Fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery in London, Austria, Australia and the USA.

I now provide a comprehensive service covering all aspects of open and arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery, including providing a significant revision service to other orthopaedic surgeons throughout the UK. I am widely published in the orthopaedic research literature as well as being the author of several text book chapters related to shoulder and elbow surgery. I am also a regular invited speaker at both national and international scientific meetings and instructional courses.

I am currently the elected Vice President of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) and was Clinical Lead to the Shoulder and Elbow Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital from 2012 to 2017. I was previously the elected Hon. Treasurer to BESS and I am currently the Chairman of the Instructional Course Committee, which is responsible for coordinating educational content for the annual Instructional Course for shoulder and elbow surgeons and AHP's in the UK. In 2018 I was also honoured to be awarded a prestigious BESS Copeland Fellowship in order to help project the work of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society internationally.
