My first consultation with Mr Teo was in April 2019 after I had been diagnosed with a small meningioma after suffering some unexplained headaches. From the start Mr Teo listened carefully and explained clearly my options. Although the need for surgery was not urgent and could be delayed, Mr Teo made clear that it was an inevitable step at some point and there were clearly some advantages in removal of the tumour while it was still fairly small. The surgery itself in August 2019 went very smoothly and the tumour, which turned out to be benign as was expected, was completely removed. Hopefully, future scans will show no re-emergence. Throughout my care, Mr Teo was very attentive and patient in answering all my questions and I always felt completely at ease with him directing my care.

I have been so impressed by the care given by Mr Teo and his team. He has always been clear to explain the options available, give detail in his recommendations and rationale. I had great confidence in Mr Teo from the moment he first came to explain the options to me, and I felt safe in his care when opting for neurosurgery. Mr Teo takes time to communicate and answer any questions carefully and thoughtfully. I have really appreciated his skill in neurosurgery, as well as his interpersonal skills. I can't thank him enough and would have absolutely no question in recommending him.

After not being taken seriously and dismissed by my own neurologist, I was recommended to get in touch with Mr Teo in Southmead (I live in Wales!) and explain my symptoms. Within a few weeks of getting my Gp to refer me, I received an appointment with Mr Teo. He listened to all my concerns and understood what I was going through with my symptoms, and subsequently ordered scans to investigate the cause of them. Within a few weeks I had a scan, and then after a very short while, followed up with a call from Mr Teo himself to give me a diagnosis and an appointment to discuss my scans and options in length. Over the coming months my condition had worsened causing me to give up work and became debilitating to my every day life and affected my weight and I lost a dramatic amount in a few weeks! Mr Teo called me after a concerned email from my GP and booked me in for urgent surgery within a fortnight! Due to the severe pressure in my brain stem it was necessary to operate. He gave me every assurance that he would take care of me and that is exactly what he did! In July 2020 Mr Teo performed my neurosurgery for Chiari Malformation. (Foramen Magnum Decompression) He came to see me almost every day of my two week stay in Southmead Hospital, took time to listen and did an amazingly neat job of the surgery scar too!! I recovered within a few days and was discharged on the 5th day post op. I’ve continued to improve daily and cannot thank or recommend him enough!! He truly is an angel in disguise and has given me hope of regaining my life back. I can only say amazing things about Mr Teo and hope Southmead realises how lucky and privileged they are to have him as part of their consultant neurosurgical team!!

Mr Teo is a wonderful surgeon, as well as obviously being technically brilliant , he is an excellent communicator, listening , and explaining the details of the treatment involved. I had returned to Southmead on the 12 th March 2020 , after an angiogram taken the previous week had confirmed the presence and location of a spinal av fistula, a rare condition which was causing severe mobility problems as well as other symptoms, I understand that untreated this would have progressed to cause paraplegia. Thankfully Mr Teo considered my case urgent, and I will be eternally grateful, he organised and carried out the operation to successfully close the fistula on the 13th March , I was allowed home a few days later just as Covid19 was gripping the country. I realise now that delay would have probably resulted in an indefinite wait due to the Pandemic. Instead I am returning to full fitness, walking, cycling and gardening. I would also like to mention Mr Teo's secretaries Nikki and Sheila , although we haven't met they have been so kind and helpful on the phone . Thank you.

Mario Teo has been marvellous. He is completely passionate about his patients. My Aunty was admitted into hospital. With desperation I contacted Mario Teo as my Aunty had received treatment from him in the past. Mario requested my Aunts scans to look at. He then decided on the best possible treatment for her. Without this my Aunty was looking at possible death. She had swelling of the brain. This wasn’t treated correctly initially. Without the input from Mario the outcome wasn’t looking great. He worked wonders. My Aunty was completely dependant on someone to care for her. Until she was correctly diagnosed and given the correct treatment, from Mario! He has since seen my Aunty at Southmead and things are looking fantastic. The treatment is working and she is gaining strength and progress everyday. Mario Teo is by far one the best out there. He has been absolutely fantastic. My family have all faith in him. Thank you so much!
