Saw mr Funk in 2017 to repair my left Pectoral which had a partial rupture after a sparing session at boxing two years earlier and to do a revision repair on my right pectoral which had torn during a game of rugby in 2013. After the surgery’s Mr Funk said both were strong repairs but not to do a press up for a year. I was fine with that as I had given up rugby and only used the bag at boxing. Straight away they didn’t feel good. I was using the most stringent rehab protocol and having a degree it’s sports physiology, along my physio we knew how to rehab...but even after a year both didn’t feel good - I couldn’t confidently do day to day activities ( walk the dog, push myself up from a chair, lean on anything) after several visits over the 2 years and numerous MRIs in 2019 Mr Funk suddenly declared they were both retorn (despite them having the same appearance as after the 3 month follow up and subsequent meetings). He then retracted this statement after more MRIs and declared they were both just stretched out however he agreed to go in again. I decided to have the left pectoral repaired first as that was the most painful. This time he used an allograft. This repair again didn’t feel right and then after 6 months I was leaning on a sink to get something from the cabinet underneath and felt a weird sensation. I knew it had retorn. After another visit, MRIs and an internal investigation that I insisted on I was told the repair was intact. A month ago I visited another surgeon, he took one look and confirmed a retear, this has been repaired and this repair even after a month seems 100 times better than after 2 years withMr Funk. I will be having the right pectoral repaired also with this new surgeon.

I had an acute issue with my shoulder that sent me into hospital by ambulance on Saturday morning with immense pain. As the injury was not critical - just excruciating- the hospital sent me home with very strong painkillers. Thereafter, one route was to go see a specialist, then get scanned, then go back to the specialist and then get treated - all of which would likely have taken 3-4 weeks, given that bridged Christmas. The other route was Len. By Saturday evening Len had organised to see me on Monday morning, coming in early to fit around his other commitments. Based on my description of the injury he had already got a clear view of the issue (which with a scan done there and then was confirmed). By 9am I was being operated on, by 10am I was finished, 3-4 weeks ahead of the alternate high quality cloning plan. By 7pm in the same Monday I was pain free and astonished that something which saw me rushed to A&E was so comprehensively addressed 3 days later. I have been very fortunate I was recommended - by one of the UK’s top physios - that Len was “the best in his field”. Quite honestly and with full sincerity, I cannot think of one thing that wasn’t to the very best level. Like a formula 1 pit crew, everything was the best it could have been. If you want down to earth perfect professionalism, this is it. I am blown away by the quality of care, and expertise of Len and his team.

Mr Funk was extremely thorough and professional. I was able to have an MRI scan and receive his diagnosis and recommended treatment during a single visit to his Arm clinic and this helped me on my way to my recovery. I recommend Mr Funk very highly to anyone suffering from arm or shoulder pain or injury, because by specialising in this area he is able to offer his patients the best options for treatment and pain relief.
