In early December 2020, I experienced acute pain in my lower back and left leg as a result of all things “putting on a pair of wellington boots!!!” I was placed under the care of Dr Gnanalingham at the Alexander Hospital in Cheadle. During my first consultation, he immediately put me at ease and gave me confidence in his ability. His diagnosis was confirmed in a later scan, showing I had a disk pressing on my nerve near to my spine. He gave me the options available and I requested a procedure under local anaesthetic. I was fully appraised by Dr Gnanalingham of what was to be expected and following that procedure I feel absolutely fine. I am fully aware of the next steps due to receiving regular updates. I can’t thank Dr Gnanalingham enough. A special thanks must also be made to Vaani, Dr Gnanalingham’s PA. She has been in constant contact, asking about my well-being and keeping me updated with follow up appointments. What a great team they are !!!!

For some time I had been having sciatica type pains in my legs and was sent for an MRI scan by my GP. This revealed that I had a cyst on my spine which was restricting the nerves. I found Mr Gnanalingham on the BUPA website and he seemed to be eminently qualified for my problem. I found him to be calm, reassuring and friendly and he explained what surgery would entail and also the involved. When it was found that there was a problem with my blood tests, I was promptly referred for extra tests which fortunately revealed nothing of note. As a patient who is nervous around hospitals, he made sure that I was calm and surgery went ahead as planned. Mr Gnanalingham came to see me in the recovery room to tell me all was well and that he had found two cysts not one. He also rang my husband to confirm that everything had gone according to plan. The following day I was able to manage the stairs and exercises given to me by the physio. Three months on I have had a follow up MRI which showed that the cyst had not returned, which was a possibility and I was also able to confirm that the leg pains had disappeared. I shall always be thankful that I went to Mr Gnanalingham both for his skill and calm reassuring manner and also for his ready smile and sense of humour.

This Consultant has been helping me on and off since 2011, for my back. I have found him to offer attentive, honest and effective help. The only thing I would say overall is that it is left up to the patient to source suitable physiotherapists to help after operations/ procedures and this can be difficult unless you get good recommendations.

My experience of treatment under Mr Gnanalingham was excellent. He was very professional and thorough and all investigations went seamlessly. I had also received a prompt appointment to see him despite Covid19. The zoom consultations I had went well with a full clear explanation of my condition verbally and visually , looking at pictures of my scan and X-ray, for example. Mr Gnanalingham’s PA, Vaani, made sure everything ran smoothly. She was outstanding and so helpful, right from my first contact with her to me being discharged. She made a stressful situation, when I was in a lot of pain, much more manageable. Fortunately I did not need surgery and when Mr Gnanalingham discharged me, following a course of physiotherapy, it was very reassuring to be told that if I have any more problems to get back in touch with him. I would definitely recommend him.

I had been suffering from back problems for several years which had restricted my activities and got progressively worse. I went to see Mr Gnanalingham who was very understanding and compassionate. He arranged various scans which identified the problem and he explained everything very clearly and what the treatment options were. We agreed that he would perform a spinal epidural and these injections have significantly improved my pain and quality of life. I am very grateful to Mr Gnanalingham and to his PA, Vaani, who has always been efficient and very helpful.
