Johnathon Duncan is amazing, what more can I say. I was very recently diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer (27th feb17) and required an immediate mastectomy. I knew I wanted reconstruction and following discussions with my oncologyst & specialist nurse I decided the DIEP flap was the best option for me so i was referred to Wythenshaw). As soon as I met Mr Duncan I felt at ease, he is so down to earth & caring. He made sure I understood what the process entailed without scaring me (I was terrified of surgery). I saw him a few times before the proceedure and each time he answered any questions I had , without medical jargon , so I understood completely what would happen. After the op he came to check on my progress EVERY day, sometimes twice. If he couldn't then he sent his 'second in command-Dr Nick" he is very protective of 'his DIEP'ladies' & has even popped to see me once I'd been discharged & was attending dressings clinic. I am amazed that a consultant has taken so muchtime to keep his eye on my progress and he was over then moon when I was able to tell him I'd been given the all clear 2 weeks after surgery. He is warm, caring ,compassionate and 'human' with a great sense of humour too. If you are at all concerned please don't be - you are in a very safe pair of hands and I got one am eternally grateful to him for making such a scary time so much more bearable.

I changed surgeons to Mr Duncan following the advice of a specialist nurse working at the hospital. Due to treatment for cancer I felt I wanted to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer and opted for a double mastectomy and reconstruction with implants in October 2015. My first experience with a different surgeon left me feeling like I should return home and wait to die. Mr Duncan treated me as a human being and understood my views and wishes, as did my nurse Nicola. I can't thank him enough, he is compassionate, understanding and genuine. He put me at my ease and helped me through the whole experience, earning my trust which had been totally destroyed. The results are amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mr Duncan. Before my first visit a receptionist told me he was lovely and would look after me, she was spot on.

I cannot speak highly enough of the care I have received from Mr Duncan, which was Diep flap breast reconstruction in December 2015. Highly skilled with a focus on patient satisfaction. Mr Duncan is friendly, warm, caring and dedicated to achieving the best results for his patients. Mr Duncan has an excellent bedside manner and made the whole experience so much easier for me because of his personality. It was very clear by talking to the nursing staff that he is well respected by these colleagues. Which in itself speaks volumes. Excellent surgeon and I am feeling great.
