Before i got refefred to Mr Barrie White i was left with know answers, reasurrance or treatment options. I was diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation and was seen by other care professionals, that didnt even acknowledge the chiari malformation was even there. They never listened they just assumed! (even the letter after appointment never had all correct info on) I felt deflated and nearly gave up on all hopes. Afterall i didnt know what was going on myslef. All i could understand was the headaches pain and dizzyness(and many more) was and still are way out my control. (always been an active person) Anyway the moment i met Mr Barrie White i just new he was/is a good Neurosurgeon and person. He let me do the talking and listened really well. His communication skills are outstounding. Even though my symptoms are not effectivley treated as yet and brain surgery may be the outcome (eventually) ive got my glimmer of hope back and hes made the connections for me to be referred to therapy based treatments. (pain clinic, acupunture). Hes also helped me cope emotionally by telling me about the Ann Conroy site. Where you can get to listen to other peoples storys and whats helped and worked best for them. What i liked the most about Mr Barrie white was how he took into account my views and the lengths hes gone to help me, understanding how it effects my quality of life. Thank you Janna Shaw

I have a little tumour in the lower thoracic spine and a signal anomaly in the lower cord which was unchangeable over the past 2 years and therefore not in need of any treatment. The pain in my lower back appears to be caused by extra wear and tear and recommended I be seen by an Orthopaedic Spinal Colleague for consideration of treatment. I received very good treatment in all Departments involved in the service.

I was lucky enough to be referred to Mr White by a former colleague of his, to be honest i'd struck gold, i had been diagnosed with a cervical spinal cord tumour in 2004 but didn't have my operation until 2008 being a nurse I probably was not the best patient but on meeting Mr White my worries were put at ease, I travelled up from Wales two days prior to surgery, the operation wasn't as successful as everyone had hoped i blame myself for that as i probably left my symptoms deteriorate to a point where I was almost unable to walk, Mr White contacted my husband staight after surgery, after spending 10 days at the QMC in Nottingham i was transferred back to Rookwood in Cardiff to continue my rehab, i must add that Mr White said that i could have gone to any rehab unit and it was my choice. Mr White wrote to me whilst i was in Rookwood and the letter i still have, i have met many a Consultant in my working career but none as professional, caring and understanding as Mr White. It has now been 8 yrs since my operation and my last MRI scan showed no regrowth i was not able to return to my profession but i'm able to walk with crutches and do use a wheelchair but by god it beats being bed bound. I owe my life to Mr Barry White i can't thank him enough
