I had an afternoon appointment at Southmead Hospital for a colonoscopy and was seen promptly. All of the staff showed professionalism, care and consideration. Miss McCarthy and her registrar were excellent. I was given a clear explanation as to what was going to happen and my concerns about potential adverse outcomes were listened to. I elected not to have any sedation and Miss McCarthy and her registrar performed the procedure extremely well and I was able to watch the procedure on the screen. I didn't experience any pain or particular discomfort from the procedure which resulted in the removal of 5 polyps - such a fact which I believe demonstrated the surgeon's expertise. I would have no hesitation in recommending Miss McCarthy given my experience. John

I can not recommend Miss McCarthy and her nurse Anouska enough. And of course the receptionist Sharon! Despite the fear I immediately felt at ease and they helped me to solve a problem that I had been carrying around for many months. They are a friendly, kind and helpful team I am happy to have entrusted myself to them! If I ever need a help in the future I'm sure who to count on.

I cannot recommend Ms McCarthy enough, I had minor surgery under local anesthetic, was made to feel at ease and it was over within minutes. I was able to book in quickly and would definitely use the McCarthy clinic in litfield house again if needed. Many thanks

I travelled to Bristol from North Wales after researching and finding Dr McCarthy online and watching some of her videos. I immediately felt confident that she could help me, I was totally embarrassed with my condition which was anal skin tags caused by really bad hemorrhoids following child birth. It affected my confidence, my marriage etc but as soon as I reached out I felt at ease, reassured that this happens and confident that I would be a normal 30 year old woman again. I had the procedure and I won't lie afterwards I was pretty rough, my problem was pretty big so I'm not surprised I was in quite a lot of pain in the weeks following as I had a fairly big area removed from a pretty sensitive place. I found showering and then taking an Epsom salt bath really helpful following a bowel movement and keeping moving, walking in particular really helped. I experienced the spasms quite a lot which aren't easy but even though I was dealing with quite a lot of pain I could see that things were going to be better and every week it got easier. Aftercare was really good and it's important I think to follow a really good diet for a few months in my case and drink plenty of water everyday. It's also so important to relax when having a bowel movement even if you know it's going to hurt because tensing does your healing no good at all, just breathe through it... It works. You kind of go through different things each week including itching and the area feeling tight due to the scar tissue, Kathryn advised a vaseline type cream for this and it worked. I wanted to wait until I felt totally better before writing a review and I'm almost 4 months post surgery now and I would say totally better and very happy. Bowel movements are normal now and painless so overall I would say that even if you experience pain that is quite bad after this surgery still go for it because the good definitely outweighs the bad and you're in safe hands with Dr McCarthy, she's very understanding, relatable, down to earth and does not make you feel in the slightest bit uncomfortable. I wish I had found her sooner.

I went here a week ago to have some anal skin tags removed which have been bothering me for a long time, but wouldn’t be removed under the NHS as it was deemed cosmetic. Kathryn and her assistant were kind, welcoming, professional and handled what for me was a stressful and scary prospect with great care and made me feel at ease. The procedure itself was fast, I felt fully taken care off during and after. It was a fairly painless procedure and although I was anticipating being in a lot of pain after which was something I worried about deeply, I was pleasantly surprised when the anaesthetic wore off and I didn’t feel discomfort anywhere near what I expected. I took Paracetamol and a few ibruprofen for the first two days as a precaution to any pain, but realised soon after that I didn’t need to worry about pain. There have been some instances where it has hurt for a small time (5-10 minutes after going to the bathroom, but other than that it has been an easy to manage procedure. Would definitely recommend this practice to anyone who was also wanting the same procedure. Following the after care advice provided has also made this an easy journey, I think it’s easy to be afraid of the worst case scenario with something like this, but If you’re like I was reading reviews and wondering if it’s worth it, it really is and as mentioned above, the care given at the practice and the skills that Kathryn has are definitely worth paying for to ensure you get the result you’re looking for.
