Dr Winston De Mello
12th December 2020
I have a yearly impar ganglion block with Dr De Mello and he's the best thing that has happened to me. I spent 18 months at home and lost my sense of self during that time as I couldn't focus on anything other than the pain.
The lead up to seeing Dr De Mello I had numerous tests and appointments trying to figure out where and why there was so much pain. My first appointment he suggested trying the pain injection and seeing if it made a difference as still we weren't sure why there was pain. He arranged a second consultation immediatley so we could check the effectiveness of the injection.
After the first injection I ran for the first time and remember crying with how happy I felt that there was no pain in two years. The pain came back within 3 months and I had to repeat the injection but Dr De Mello reassured me that the second injection will be effective for longer and since then I've seen him yearly.
He was absolutely great, remembered me at each appointment (difficult when you have so many patients), listened to my symptoms and discussed options, made me feel at ease during the injections, reassured me that we'll work out the problem and find a solution. What an absolute gem.
I've recently found out that he has retired and am sorry that the NHS has lost an absolutely brilliant doctor. I am very happy for him so that he can dedicate time to himself and his own life. He's helped so many people and I really hope he realises how valued he is by all those that he has helped.
