Dr Fergus Rugg-Gunn

Dr Rugg-Gunn is, without doubt, the most professional, thorough, knowledgeable and empathetic Doctor I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He actively listened to me, never once rushed me, even when I struggled with word finding difficulties he remained patient and polite and you can see that he genuinely enjoys his clinics as this comes across through his warm and friendly manner. I have never seen another Doctor (privately or via the NHS) who was as thorough when discussing my clinical and symptom history. I knew whatever the outcome of this professional and thorough appointment would be, I could leave knowing I had been given the right information. As the appointment was coming to a natural end, Dr Rugg-Gunn not only explained his decision making process when going through what he recommended, but he delivered this in a way that I’ve never heard before…after giving me all of thus information without overloading me might I add, he then asked me, the patient, if I would like to follow this plan! I have never been asked my opinion by a healthcare professional in my life and I was absolutely delighted to feel like not only was I receiving the best care possible but that my agreement genuinely mattered to Dr Rugg-Gunn. I obviously agreed as his future care plan was beyond anything I ever imagined possible. Dr Rugg-Gunn is not your average Specialist, he is without doubt the best, and this was proven again shortly after my appointment when I received his clinic letter. I have never read such a thorough, professional and detailed clinic letter. Dr Rugg-Gunns secretary I must add, is also a consummate professional and simultaneously extremely friendly and approachable. I could not have imagined a better experience from start to finish. I look forward to seeing Dr Rugg-Gunn again soon and until then I can rest easy knowing I am under his care.

I have had Fergus manage my epilepsy for many years, until recently. A person who always filled me with confidence, and hope. He made my wife very comfortable, and although I have a great neurologist in Chalfont now, it will always be in our minds, during my most challenging times

One of the most knowledgable and kindest men you could meet. Dr Rugg-Gunn helped me from the age of 15 in a very dark and worrying time. He has always listened, taken everything on board and best of all really understands the trauma someone has gone through. His knowledge of Epilepsy is second to none and he had me on the road to recovery in a very short space of time, for such a debilitating illness this was so important. I caught up with him after a long while and it was like we saw each only yesterday. A truly great bloke, who I'm very indebted too. He's the only person I come across which I'm so happy not to run into on a regular basis, but also unhappy that we don't catch up enough. An odd one :) For anyone out there looking for the best doctor in the business, look no further!

I was a patient with Dr Rugg Gunn for 3-4 years when i was diagnosed with epilepsy. No doctor could get control over my epilepsy but after one session i had a fit free period of nearly 4 years. To the point that i stopped believing i had epilepsy. Then i made a mistake and started missing appointments and was discharged because of my own fault. This led to a recurrence of my fits. I firmly believe if i stayed under Dr Rugg Gunn’s treatment i would have been fit free for a long time. This doctor has your best interest as priority along your treatment. I have now been referred again after 10 years and cannot wait to start the treatment. Dr Rugg Gunn nearly had me off my medication as well, which is important as there are side effects with every medication. However, the medication this Dr provided me had the least side effects.

I have the greatest respect for Dr Rugg-Gunn and feel that I would be in a worse situation if it was not for him. I stayed at The William Gower Centre for 8 weeks in 2017 and it was the best thing I did regarding my epilepsy. I made very special friends and was the place that I didn’t have to “wear my mask” and say I was fine. It was a place where everyone supported each other. I feel so lucky to have Dr Rugg-Gunn and he always listens, cares and does the best for me. He is an amazing Neurologist and understands and supports myself and all patients. He is a Dr that I feel safe with as I know he will always put my health and safety first and also cares what this is doing to my mental health. Thank goodness for this amazing Doctor.

My son who is 25 has been under the care of Dr Rugg-Gunn now some years now and due to the complex nature of his condition he has had to have several stays at the Chalfont Centre in Buckinghamshire. We cannot thank him enough for his continued support and care and most of all his determination to give give my son the opportunity to have the best life he can despite the problems he faces. Dr Rugg-Gunn has the best interest of his patients at the core of his treatment of them with the belief that if possible he will work with them to achieve the best seizure control possible. He is a gentleman in every sense of the word. THANK YOU with all you do.

My son is under the care of Dr Rugg-Gunn for his uncontrolled epilepsy. Along with other neurological problems he is really trying their expertise but the team are determined to improve his quality of life. The Sir William Gower Unit at Chalfont has been a lifesaver and we have acquired a second family with staff and other patients. Dr Rugg-Gunn is a strong advocate for all patients expectations to be seizure free wherever possible. A real gentleman and dedicated professional.

Dr Rugg-Gunn looks after my teenage daughter’s severe epilepsy. He is one of these people who instils hope and confidence even when things are so difficult. He listens, iscareful when he should be but has the experience and expertise to take necessary and calculated risks, is very accurate and we think he genuinely cares. We feel very fortunate to have Dr Rugg-Gunn as our daughter’s neurologist.

He is by far the best Dr I have ever met, he is kind, respectful and listens before giving advice. He is always willing to hear your side and what you think before offering his opinion on the situation. After seeing a long string of neurologists in over ten years I am extremely grateful that I was given the opportunity of meeting him and being under his care. I truly believe that if he had not had the time for me or the care then I would not be in the position I am today, from having 11 seizures a day to now being seizure free for over a year. I believe I am now fixed and it was due to him and his care I will be forever grateful

In a nutshell ! Dr Rugg -Gunn listens, is compassionate , caring, kind, understanding , answered everything we asked, gave us time. Time is very precious to Drs but for the first time in years I didn’t feel rushed, I felt respected and worthwhile. I wasn’t just another patient , I was an individual in my own right with epilepsy and he gave me the time to explain exactly how I felt , and what I was going through without feeling pressured that he was rushing me. Thank you Dr Rugg-Gunn for listening to me and assisting me with my condition and medication. Definitely would recommend to anyone who is looking for a top class neurologist .
