I cannot recommend Jason enough, Jason was my rock of stability throughout my stay in hospital. Even on his days off he would email me making sure I was ok mentally and physically. Without Jason being there I don’t feel I would have had the courage to go through with the surgery. Jason was an invaluable addition to the already fantastic hospital staff.

My heart surgery at Barts was at the end of May 2020, so the Covid-19 pandemic was well-established. Although I'd known about my bicuspid aortic valve for many years, I was largely asymptomatic, so the invitation to come in for an operation at that time was a little surprising, but clearly not to be deferred. The stay at Barts and the surgery went smoothly, and during this time I met Jason, who was clearly an effective and thoughtful member of the team taking care of me. On the day that I was scheduled to be taken home, I lost consciousness a few times and the decision was taken to keep me in a little longer while a pacemaker was fitted. My wife was not contactable on her drive into London, as she had diverted her phone while negotiating the unfamiliar route. Jason took me down to meet her and explained the situation. A couple of days later, my wife arrived again and this time took me home, complete with a pacemaker as well as my new aortic valve. I've been delighted with my recovery over the strange summer of 2020 and I'm glad that I've remained in touch with Jason. Jason clearly knows - and understands - what he's talking about, but crucially is also a great listener.

I am writing to express my extreme gratitude for the way all the Surgeons, Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the hospital treated me whilst I was with you, it was absolutely first class. Specifically i want to thank you personally for your honest and what felt like the personal touch you gave me which was a breath of fresh air, I looked forward to your regular visits which provided me with an honest and comprehensive update on my progress which put my mind at ease and I’m sure mentally speeded up my recovery. You said 3-6 weeks recovery and you were spot on, I haven’t been great for 3 weeks and then exactly 3 weeks post op I woke up as if someone had ordered me a 3 week repair kit, this week I feel like I have moved on hugely and I’m 100% better than I was. The role that you carry out in my experience helped me immensely with not only my time at the hospital but the way in which i was informed post op regarding the recovery process. Thank you once again.

Jason is highly professional and very attentive; he has helped me with both medication and moral support. He has followed up each query or concern as promised each time I have spoken to him before, and since, leaving hospital. I cannot praise him highly enough. He is a credit to the NHS and St Bartholomew's Cardiothoracic Department. I will always be grateful to him for this.

Jason stood out in my time at Bart's as someone who took the time to He had the experience and knowledge of his specialism to be able to contribute to the medical team's diagnosis of my condition. His communication skills were excellent too; he was able to talk to me about my diagnosis and treatment in clear and unambiguous language which helped my to understand my situation and the solution to it. Jason gave me TIME... Where my contact with some of the doctors felt quite rushed, Jason was willing to sit with me for half an hour or 45 minutes if need be to make sure I understood what was going on, and do his best to make sure I was comfortable with it. Which I suppose brings his best quality. One which can be rare in clinical setting. Jason showed empathy; I felt that he cared. Not just about my physical recovery, but also how I felt. It was this that made the biggest difference to how I felt during my stat at Bart's. I don't know how you can replicate it... but I hope that you can.
