I arrived at A and E after my GP referred me. I arrived around 1pm and I left at 6.30pm. I was seen by triage approx 40 mins after I arrived, a jr dr spoke to me around 3pm, I had my bloods taken around 3.15 (a cannula was fitted which was a shock!). I was called into a room with a dr and the jr dr I saw earlier- he touched both of my shins and listened to my chest. He said I may have to have a top up of blood if my blood count is low and I could go home if my blood count was ok. I did ask why I had this “chat” with dr- jr dr said it was because she wasn’t qualified yet and he had to confirm what she said basically. I went back to waiting room. After 1.5 hours I spoke to reception and asked if there was an update. A student nurse went and spoke to dr and came back into waiting room and told me I was staying in for the night. I started crying as my seven week old baby was at home and I didn’t expect to be staying- student nurse raised her voice at me and got her back up when I asked for PALs info. she went and got a nurse to talk to me- this nurse also raised her voice and was obnoxious- she confirmed that my bloods had come back normal and my obs were fine. She said I had to stay in a couple of nights- I still didn’t understand why I had to stay and no one was talking to me. I got upset and nurse rang dr who said he would see me tonight as my original dr had already gone home. I was told that there is a 4 hour waiting time there and that’s why I was being admitted because you’re either sent home or admitted in that time frame. A Dr saw me and I finally got examined around 5.30pm. I must say that dr was fine, he put me at ease and answered my questions. I was then seen by a senior dr quite quickly after that. It was then decided I could go home- however I didn’t know until the nurse came in to take my cannula out!! I was given a prescription then got to go home. Communication can be greatly improved. Staff need to be more empathetic, especially with those who have recently given birth. A breast pump would be good in the department too as my breasts were very engorged.

Both my partner and I have (unfortunately) had to visit your hospital on a number of occasions in recent years and received care and treatment of the highest possible standard. It was, therefore, the obvious choice for us today when I injured my arm. Once again I find myself wanting to use all the superlatives which, I can assure you, would not be verging on the excessive. Whilst I would pick out Robin Harries for particular praise it does not diminish my appreciation of other practitioners who dealt with me. The consideration which was shown to us this afternoon was brilliant and we only wish there was a bigger pair of words than Thank You; if there were we would use them!!! David Houghton

I went to A and E on the 31st January at 10pm with symptoms of a potential heart attack and was feeling very unwell and agitated. I made sure the staff knew I was awaiting heart surgery at Papworth Hospital and was told by the nurse at the reception desk he would sort out an urgent ECG. Over 3 hours later and despite reminding the nurse I finally had my urgent ECG. the staff nurse carrying out the ECG was shocked and told us we should have made it clear to the reception staff what my symptoms were. We told the staff at reception on 3 occasions what my symptoms were. Having finally got to the medical staff who were all great my husband and I waited with 2 men who had arrived well after I did and had their ECGs very quickly. Was the delay because I was a woman? or just a mess up? because the medical staff were not impressed with the delay I had.

My room had a sink without a plug or an overflow a bowl was provided but it was too big to fit under the tap ,so it was impossible to fill.....I can never understand why doctors are incapable of communication with patients ,it's my body ! Why won't they ever explain what is wrong with me ,what treatment I'm having and how long roughly will I be in hospital ?

The only criticism I have is with the patient car park! It’s totally inadequate and you can drive round and round trying to find a fiancé often without success which is very stressful when you have an appointment to keep.

Our mum was rushed in Christmas morning and unfortunately died 2 days later due to a long term illness. The doctor and nursing staff in the ED and MAU were absolutely amazing. They were kind, caring, understanding, patient and showed complete compassion and empathy. More importantly they gave us a side room which provided mum with the dignity and privacy she deserved during her final days. We couldn’t have asked for more for her, thank you.

Was offered help as soon as entered the hospital. The department I was going to was clearly marked. Hardly any waiting. Only thing was after my procedure there was nobody there to tell me what to do next or where to go.
