I had a C6/7 vertebral fusion under orthapaedics at Guys in November 2018. Mr Panteliades and his team as well as the day surgery staff, anaethatists & recovery room staff did a fantastic job. I fully had my procedure explained, including all risks by the surgeon & anastheseologist. My surgery & time in recovery took longer than expected but my medical welfare was paramount and pain fully controlled. It took a while to find me a bed but as I could/should have been a day patient this was expected. I spent 2 days in hospital and have since had a 6 wk follow up & will go back in April for another check. My surgery is going to be followed by a thyroidectomy so it was important this went well & safely before my next operation. I felt that the nurses were very attentive. Rooms /areas very clean & food was surprisingly tasty & varied.

I would really like to thank all the staff that have treated me during 2016 - 2018 including two operations. From the Orthopaedic team to the pre-op team, to the Surgical team, to the recovery team, to everyone on Sarah Ward from the cleaners, the nursing staff, catering, to the pharmacist to the porters to the drivers who took me home and picked me up each time I had an appointment. Absolutely everyone I came across who have been part of my life for the past two years I am incredibly indebitted to them for their care, professionalism and dedication to their role. A huge, huge thank-you to everyone who has helped me and most of all added a touch of humour to get me through the really tough times. I can't thank-you enough.

The Ward Team - nurses, doctors, physiotherapist, occupational therapist and domestic staff demonstrated a very high standard of care. They made me feel special and they have shown great professionalism, patience and understanding of the needs of patients.

My operation for hip replacement was at Guy's; the follow up was at St Thomas. I felt thoroughly cared for at both establishments. Only suggestion I have:- Initially phone contact could be slow but actually now I think it is much improved. I love hearing the piano being played at guy's.

I have found the reception staff at both Guys and St Thomas’s pleasant and helpful. I was impressed by every interaction I had with my surgeon, Mr Jaiswal. The anaesthetist that spoke to me about the options before my operation listened to my concerns and reassured me about how they would be dealt with. He was as good as his word and I was very pleased I had listened to him and taken his advice. I think it would be helpful if the sequence of events in the surgical lounge could be outlined to the patient or a sheet of information given. The first time I had a hip operation I thought I was going for the operation every time my name was called! The second time I was more relaxed because I remembered that there are many stages to go through before the actual operation. The staff in the recovery room were very kind and encouraging. Once on the ward I felt I was in good hands, very professional nursing and several very warm and kind people. The physiotherapists were most encouraging. The pharmacist was most efficient. The medication I would need on discharge was prepared and locked in my locker drawer the day before I was discharged so on the next day there was no delay. Notification of follow up appointments has been swift. All together a very good experience. The only really unfortunate experience I had was before I got to Guys. My GP referred me to Guys and I asked to be seen by Mr Jaiswal as I had had such a good experience with him and his team before, but I received an appointment at another hospital from an appointment service who insisted that this was what my GP had requested. My GP was adamant that he had referred me to Guys and gave me a copy of the referral. The appointment service would not accept this and I felt completely trapped. Fortunately I had an appointment booked with Mr Jaiswal (follow up from my first hip replacement) and he immediately investigated my second hip and put me on his list. I rang the appointment service to explain that I did not need the appointment they had given me at the other hospital. They then sent me a letter saying that they had had to cancel my appointment and would give me another as soon as possible.....Fortunately I have not had any frustrating dealings like that since I started with the orthopaedics at Guys and St Thomas’s.
