I recently gave birth to my first child in Epsom General Hospital. I stayed in hospital longer than expected due to complications. I found all the staff very caring, attentive and hard working. In particular Sue Gardiner (my midwife) was amazing. She was incredibly kind, caring and reassuring. Unfortunately, the birth didn't go as planned and I ended up having an emergency Caesarian. Sue was fantastic and supported me throughout. I felt really lucky to have her as my midwife.
I am very grateful to all the staff for their professionalism, kindness and caring attitude.
I was really pleasantly surprised by my hospital stay. I was surprised that I had my own room, with an en suite bathroom. The view was beautiful, as because it was on the fifth floor I could see out over the buildings. Unfortunately I had a five and a half hour wait between my arrival and actual operation, but at least I was waiting in a nice environment. The ward was very quiet and peaceful. I was especially impressed with the kindness of the irish student nurse (I think her name was Laura?) who looked after me during the day. She obviously has a genuine interest in the patients that she looks after. I have no fear of hospitals as a result of my stay, and actually left with a pleasant feeling about the whole thing.
I found that after returning to the ward following my operation,, there didnt seem to many nurses around, i wasnt offered a drink or anything to eat for a long time , and before lights off wasnt asked if I wanted to have a wash or freshen up.. and felt grubby , I was still on sheet from theatre... I appreciate they all are doing their best and am grateful for the care I did recieved,
I was once again disappointed in the aftercare and the lack of attention in the hospital.I believe the hospital staff still lack to understand that they are dealing with human beings not NUMBERS.
While I was slightly disappointed and a more than a tad concerned that the hospital managed to 'forget' to send the results from my ultrasound scan and (cancer marker...) blood test to my GP until I prompted them to do so a whole month later (even though my scan results were marked as 'Urgent') I cannot fault the specialist (Dr Ammar) I was referred to, she was absolutely fantastic.
The hospital is clean, the staff are smiling, friendly, professional and on the whole, very good (apart from the one nurse who couldn't work out that an in-ear thermometer has to go INTO the ear... ...and told me that I'd be in hospital for three to five days even though I was booked for day surgery. Oh, and told my Mum on the phone that I was still in theatre even though I was back on the ward, awake and could hear the conversation and could have waved to her from my bed...)
But overall, my (short) stay in the hospital for the actual surgery was very efficient and I'd like to thank all the staff (even the dopey nurse) for all their help, support and kindness.
all the staff that i saw at Epsom were very caring and supportive. the wards were cleaned every day and sheets changed so you felt clean and cared for. i had a brief stay there and was pleased by their standards
The doctors on duty were very caring and the nursing staff were attentive, cheerful, and caring also
The maternity unit was brilliant and I was really happy with the care I received on the Delivery Suite, the Ward and from the nurses in the Special Care Unit. Thank you.
I found my stay at the hospital a very positive experience. Without exception all medical staff were kind, friendly and efficient. All my questions/queries were answered appropriately. In addition I found all the ancilliary staff to be equally friendly and approachable. The food and sercice was of a high standard.
