Medical “professionals” discussed my medical issues and treatment outside the ward at the main reception desk, naming me, and discussing me loudly enough that I could follow the conversation from my bed within the ward.
The food was disgusting and everything in the ward was covered with a layer of greasy dust.
The nurses (all except for Lydia who was incredible) seemed to ignore call buttons.
The only exception was the surgical team who came in to operate on me on Christmas Day and who were utterly amazing. They could see how nervous I was and they did their utmost to keep me calm. They treated me with respect throughout and I am sorry that I was too nervous and sick to recall their names as they deserve every ounce of gratitude and praise. They were the one shining light in a hospital that I nicknamed “the place where Hope goes to die”.
I am 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant and expecting a midwife to come to my house today to give me a sweep. They did not state a time.
Unfortunately, my partner had an accident this morning and was in need of seeing a doctor so I thought I would call up the midwife to let her know that I needed to go with him.
I called the maternity unit at Frimley Park Hospital and spoke with a lady who interpreted me constantly and told me to ring another number. I called another number where a women AGAIN, would not let me explain my situation and keep interpreting me. She put the phone down on me again.
At this point I haven't even been asked my name, address or any details about myself. I was only told I had to wait in between 9-5 and if I couldn't, I wouldn't be able to get my sweep (despite myself saying I really needed one as I was so anxious about being induced).
The women did not listen, give me any solutions to my problem or even take my details. I have never been spoken to so BADLY in my life, I am now in tears and extremely stressed out whilst being so heavily pregnant. I only wanted to see if my midwife could give me a rough time to when she is coming round as I have to deal with my partner in pain and he needs to see a doctor asap!
I then had a "sister" call my house phone back up and shout down the phone at me saying, I have one of her members of staff in tears and she wanted to get to the bottom of it. To which I replied, listen to the call and how dare she call me back up speaking to me so rudely after the distress I have just had! To which AGAIN, she put the phone down on me.
I am absolutely appalled with the community midwifes and I just hope nobody has to go through this experience. I will be delivering my baby at Royal Berks Hospital and I urge people not to go to Frimley Park!!
I had a very positive homebirth experience. I was lucky to have a great midwife (Lynn Good) and saw her for all of my antenatal appointments. On the day of the birth I spoke to Lynn who told me to call her when I felt I needed her to come to my home. I called an hour later and within 10 minutes Lynn and another midwife, Mel Taylor, arrived. By now I was feeling ready to have my baby so Lynn and Mel prepared the room and then let me take the lead (this was my 2nd child). Everything was going well until it became apparent that my baby had, at some point, decided to turn and was arriving in the breech position. At first I felt a little concerned but Lynn and Mel appeared to be very calm which put me at ease. They told me they would have to call an ambulance but not to worry as this was standard procedure with a breech delivery. After about 10 minutes my baby was born breech with no pain relief! I'd just like to add that this was my choice as I was using the hypnobirthing method, entonox was available should I have wanted it. Lynn and Mel checked my baby and, as all was well, they called to cancel the ambulance as it was yet to arrive! Following the birth, Lynn and Mel were great. They stayed with us for about 4 hours, making sure that both myself and my baby were fit and well before they left us. The whole experience was lovely, so calm and relaxed being in your own home. I would definitely recommend the homebirth service to anyone considering it :)
I have found all of the midwives I have seen extremely helpful and attentive. They really seem to love what they do, especially Lynn, which has made the anti-natal experience much more pleasant for me.
I couldn't fault the service I have had, the only thing I can suggest is to perhaps be a bit more flexible on appointment days as being a full time worker in the city it has been a bit of a struggle making sure I can work from home on a Tuesday.
Although I encountered friendly, knowledgable and caring midwives throughout my antenatal care I saw many different midwives which did not offer continuity of care and left me feeling unreassured at one point. On the positive side the team were lovely and I have no complaints about the care which was offered.
Tracey amazing - don't want to leave her. She's very helpful and kind.
Thank you.
All staff were fantastic, couldn't fault them.
Very friendly also.
The support was fantastic! Denise was great and provided me with the logic to get me through.
When I needed the extra support with feeding, the office were very comforting and 2x midwives turned up that morning.
Thank you so much!
