Medical “professionals” discussed my medical issues and treatment outside the ward at the main reception desk, naming me, and discussing me loudly enough that I could follow the conversation from my bed within the ward. The food was disgusting and everything in the ward was covered with a layer of greasy dust. The nurses (all except for Lydia who was incredible) seemed to ignore call buttons. The only exception was the surgical team who came in to operate on me on Christmas Day and who were utterly amazing. They could see how nervous I was and they did their utmost to keep me calm. They treated me with respect throughout and I am sorry that I was too nervous and sick to recall their names as they deserve every ounce of gratitude and praise. They were the one shining light in a hospital that I nicknamed “the place where Hope goes to die”.
