Review of MRI written by a family member
1st November 2018

Whilst I was waiting for the investigation I learned from overhearing the staff discuss the rotas and numerous changes that needed to be made that a member of staff (and I do know their name but don't feel it is appropriate to repeat it here) needed their MRI for BOS and pelvis to be rearranged because she had only been allocated a 30 minute slot and it would take an hour. There was also a heated discussion between the Manager and a doctor on a ward about the safety of a patient needing a head scan as he was needing to be sedated and he was already taking methadone. If it went past 8 pm there would not be enough members of staff in the department to deal with the patient safely. These are just two of the conversations I heard in the reception that night. Multiple patients were rung to have their MRI appointments changed. If staff need to ring patients or discuss patients with other members of staff then the empty office could have been used instead of doing it in front of members of the public in the waiting room. I would be horrified to think I was being talked about in that manner with NO confidentiality attached at all. With the latest GDPR guidance I would have thought that some of this would breach ICO guidance It makes me wary of attending that hospital department again

Review of Radiotherapy written by a patient
29th September 2018

The radiotherapy team were excellent in every way. Praise could not be high enough. I was treated with dignity, respect, sympathy and kindness. The radiotherapists and radiotherapy nurses were very professional. One comment which I hope will be helpful: Could reception perhaps update the information display showing delays a little more often?

Review of Ward 26 written by a patient
27th August 2018

Nursing staff, doctors, physio's were kind, caring and professional. Most doctors introduced themselves; just the odd one/two who inspected my notes without saying hello/speaking to me - usually when in groups of 2/3. Disappointing. Meal choice and quality generally good. Ancilliary staff pleasant and friendly. Excelllent level of care all round. Ines Abodesso a wonderful nurse; so good in every aspect.

Review of Ward 16 written by a patient
16th August 2018

I was pleased to have my own room with en-suite facilities and television which made my stay more relaxed and comfortable during a difficult time. All the staff at Castle Hill Hospital - Cottingham were helpful and friendly and I would recommend them to anyone.

The only problem I experienced was getting an answer to questions. Whether the staff got an emergency distraction or merely forgot I cannot say and it is only a minor criticism.

Review of Ward 9 (CH) written by a patient
10th June 2018

I was admitted to ward 9 on June 9th 2018 for disc decompression surgery and a discectomy. From the minute i arrived the staff were absolutely wonderful. I was so well cared for. Pain relief after surgery was regularly given i didn’t have to wait or ask. All the staff from the drs to nurses to catering staff were so tentative and friendly i was very much at ease and could not be more pleased with the level of care i received. Everything was always well explained and although the staff were very busy i never felt this from them they were just brilliant. Cannot thank them enough for the outstanding care i received it makes such a difference when you are nervous and not used to hospitals.

Review of Ward 9 (CH) written by a patient
6th June 2018

The level of care was very mixed depending on the personnel on duty and I found my stay very stressful. The ward was cold and I could not keep warm. There seemed to be a lack of good practice and leadership. The only good thing I can say is that it spurred me on to get home as quickly as possible.
