The video consultation was much better than expected. Very short wait, the appointment was booked for the next day! Saves the travel and waiting time. I generally prefer face to face appointments as I believe they are more effective, but in my case, and as an initial consultation, it was absolutely sufficient. Sarah Keating, the therapist, was very kind and patient, she went through a detailed check of my problem, has answered all my questions and discussed with me the therapy plan. I am very happy with the help I received from her.

I think that greater use should be made of Virtual appointments because there is a saving in travel, waiting, cross infection, hospital space. Also I think that physio appointments could be recorded so that progress could be compared with previous consultations. I my own case progress has been slow and I think that comparisons with earlier appointments would encourage my progress. Well done please keep up the good work.

I had shoulder surgery at Ashford hospital. As soon as i checked in i was looked after by the nurses who made sure i had a long enough dressing gown, apparently they could see my bum. lol. The surgeons and anaesthetists and all the nurses who helped during my operation were absolutely fantastic. All were very knowledgeable and patient (answering my many questions), but most of all they were caring and soooo professional. A special thanks to nurse Claire in the ward after my operation, best cheese sandwich, cup of tea and smile. Love to all who helped me, Thanks to the NHS

This was my first full ‘virtual’ appointment after my rather complicated orthopaedic surgery. Becky was really helpful and took time to check and revise my progress. We used the iPad in a ‘walk about manner’ which meant my efforts could be seen, corrected, sometimes challenged and a revised exercise programme is now with me. I felt reassured, but also challenged, in a nice way, and I am confident to continue and work hard. Thank you.

I am very new to using physiotherapy. However, my left knee was giving me trouble. For sometime I had been walking up and downstairs one step at a time because I was scared of twisting the knee and making it more painful. My doctor referred me to the physiotherapist and I saw Becky Smith on 10th March. I was with her for about 30 minutes during which she was very professional and organised. She gave me a list of exercises for knee strengthening and encouraged me to start using stairs in the normal way. Since seeing Becky I have been doing the exercises on most days and have being using stairs properly. I only walk a step at a time if I am carrying stuff as my balance is sometimes shaky. Altogether I feel much better and my knee has improved. Becky put my name down to attend the Monday sessions at Ashford Hospital but the Covid-19 lockdown has made this impossible at the moment but I am hoping I will eventually be able to participate in those. The two telephone appointments I had with Connie on 23rd March and Becky on 17th April were informative, encouraging and very helpful. Altogether I am very impressed with the service.

Review of Dickens Ward - Ashford written by a patient
15th April 2020

I was perfectly happy with my 4-day stay in Dickens Ward for a knee replacement. I did find the very first question on this report difficult - patients are drafted to a ward, according to their need, so although I chose 'Extremely likely' in that response, it is with the knowledge that there is no choice anyway - a bit of a contradiction!
