I recently had to go into ARI for a minor medical procedure. I was expected to only be a day case, firstly going to the Department for Scheduled Admissions then to Theatre, Recovery then home. However it ended up with me being admitted overnight onto Ward 302.
I just wanted to say that every single person I interacted with from the Receptionist, Nurses, Doctors, Anaesthetist, Porter, Auxiliaries, everyone. Everyone was so kind and pleasant. I was extremely anxious going into the hospital and the fact that everyone was so helpful, kind and caring made my stay much less anxious.
I just wanted to give these hard working people a shout out that they are appreciated for the job they do but also being helpful, kind and caring. So thank you to you all who made my stay so much less anxious than it might have been.
I attended A&E on a Friday evening after a call to 111, I was visiting my partner in Aberdeen from Lancashire and my own surgery couldn't help after 5.30pm. They told me to call 111 who were concerned enough to tell me to attend A&E
I was seen within an hour by triage nurse and then by triage consultant. I hadn't realised my symptoms could be serious but the triage consultant took time to explain to me, although a bit brisk, she helped me understand more blood test were necessary. There were 2 tests three hours part which meant bit of a wait but I now understand that my condition was more concerning than I'd thought. Ended up being admitted even though they has no beds on the ward and it was in a corridor. Staff on the ward were a little thoughtless when I arrived, possiby as I arrived in the early hours of the morning as the staff were handing over to morning staff, but the morning staff were 5*. The Cardio consultant who saw me in the morning was excellent, calm and assuring taking me off the medication prescribed by Cardiologist in Furness General and I think had I not been returning home on Tuesday they would have done more tests and sorted out my breathlessness. As it is I have had to really insist my own Drs step up and do a more thorough/professional job of assessing what ongoing treatment I really need.
Aberdeen were busy with a few aggressive, drunk and injured patients but they did there best and I will always be thankful I was treated there with though medical treatment and kind staff.
If the ward staff has helped me with things like the offer of a cup of tea or a basic nightie it would have ade a huge difference as it was I slept in my clothes with nothing to drink untill morning from 9pm the night before most 12hours. The day staff were not to know the previous nurses hadn't said anything to be but 'I'll come back' which they didn't due possibley to a long shift. I had come through A&E and frankly was more than a little concerned that they had admitted me when I thought they'd take one look and send me home!
Excellent and immediate care in the hospital for my 92 yr old father-in-law, admitted with RSV pneumonia ( respiratory syncitial virus, very dangerous in the elderly and in young babies), with probable additional bacterial pneumonia. Triaged and started on oxygen immediately, and given intravenous antibiotics within 1 hour of arrival ( in March 2025 when the A&E was full of patients).
In- patient care was also excellent, except there were big signs on the door for everyone to wear masks and aprons to avoid spreading the RSV infection, which most visitors took no notice of, or didn't read, and nurses rarely bothered to bring to visitors' attention.
Unfortunately, once he left the hospital, he was forgotten about. He was told a follow-up chest X ray would be done 6 weeks later, but we had to phone the ward because no-one organised this. Then we never got the result, despite phoning the ward and the consultant's secretary. Over a month later, the GP had still not got the result, and on contacting the ward again, I finally got through to a very kind, very junior doctor who hunted down the report - which fortunately was all clear. He apologised nicely, said it had been reported on 2 weeks earlier, but the team had forgotten to look up the result. I realise the staff are overburdened, but it should not be up to a 92 year old patient ( or his family) to be responsible for making sure the doctors were doing their job properly. What about the many elderly patients who don't want to trouble anyone, or assume ' they would tell me if there was a problem' ( not if they haven't bothered to find the report!) or who don't have relatives to hunt things down? NOT GOOD ENOUGH, ARI
Ward 209 was just wonderful.
Mr Danji and the anesthetiser brilliant.
Nurses super. Emilie the nurse and others were so good.

Today I spent 7 hours at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary A&E / Minor Injuries & I cannot praise the staff and care enough.
I fell over and thought I had dislocated my knee but I had actually broken my kneecap.
All the staff were wonderful even though they were all very busy, they made me feel valued and I felt very well looked after.
All the parts of the hospital I saw were spotlessly clean, a big thank you to everyone involved in my care.
Having been admitted as an emergency to the endocrine unit My condition was investigated thoroughly over a period of a week, I then was called back for a further week and even more tests were done in order to fine tune my treatment.
This was in 2011 and ever since then I have regular 6 monthly blood tests and follow up consultations with the consultant.
the treatment and after care that I have received from the endocrine unit has been first class.
I also suffer from wet macular degeneration which was a terrifying diagnosis and treatment it the treatment and care that I have had from the eye clinic at ARI has also been superb and was unfaltering throughout lockdown.
Five star treatment all round at ARI and I fail to understand anyone who claims otherwise.
I was admitted to ward 205 for very complex neurological surgery on my spine. The Consultant, Mr Bhatt, and the surgical team were outstanding and I am, so far, making excellent progress. Back on the ward, the nursing and auxiliary staff were amazing; very caring, kind and absolutely professional throughout. The level of care from everyone involved was of the highest order.
I was grateful for the kind and patient way I was treated by the staff.
I attend clinic G on a regular basis . I cannot thank the team enough for the outstanding care , especially Ross and Rena . They are so dedicated to their job.
They are so professional and yet so friendly.
A huge thank you to all the team . There is no room for improvement , it is outstanding care
Called 111 and was told to attend A&E within the hour only to attend A&E and be told I shouldn’t be seen by them and to come back at 2pm the next day (which seems like a bit of a contradiction). Rude reception staff and a nurse who lacked any caring whatsoever. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to anyone.
