This is a reasonable practice and I have noticed improvements over recent months in attitudes of reception staff. The waiting room is sparse and does not cope well with the mix of young children and older people. I largely feel listened to but it is often difficult to get timely appointments with the GP of my choice.
I think the practice needs to think about the needs of children and young people alongside those of older ones.
I recognise that the issue of appointments is complicated but can create difficulties when as for me I have mental health issues and I need to see someone.
The practice have never contacted me about any health promotion offer for general health and could think about how they do this.

Thank you for your comments. We will be starting work on upgrading the waiting room next week and the whole process will take about 2 to 3 weeks as most of the building work will be done at night and weekends. You mentioned health promotion in your comments, we do offer a range of health promotion through the articles and leaflets that are on the notice boards and in the waiting room, we also have a patient Liasion Service that can put patients in touch with most other agencies that support patients. If you have something that you feel that you need help with please make an appointment with a doctor and mention during the consultation that you are aware of the Patient Liasion Service. You may also consider having online access to your records, please see the web site for details or pop into reception and they will be able to advise and set you up.

The gateway here is the reception staff...helpful to the max, friendly but professional, and effective. Appointments for telephone consults often available that day, and nearly always some appointment available that day or so via the interactive website. On these consultations, I feel listened to, involved, and helped in a way that gives me confidence and a willingness to trust all those I come into contact with including the nurse practitioners as well as the Doctors. Good interaction with the pharmacy next door makes for easy collection of prescription meds. If possible, on the odd occasion when the lines are engaged it would be good if the machine could say approx how long the wait will be. Very grateful, very impressed.

As an older patient it is more reassuring to be able to see a regular doctor so that there is some continuity,this is not always possible.Telephone appointments are difficult because there are either not enough personnel to answer the telephone or not enough lines.Waiting times can sometimes be long compared to time spent with the doctor as sometimes one needs more than the allotted ten minuets,especially as when one is older you may have a number of chronic ailments that need attention even if it is just to allay ones fears. Referrals are good when required, Doctors receptionists and other staff are always polite and pleasant.
