Improve systems of internal communication and efficiency of reception/office. A recent letter of referral from a GP to a Consultant was placed on the desk of a different GP in the absence of the former. It seems it was not chased up and became 'lost' and so the referral did not reach the Consultant. Admin efficiency needs improving
Generally ok getting an appointment but as a long standing condition (diabetes) I need to do this to ensure I get booked in ok. Problem I have found is when the blood nurse goes off sick at short notice and leaves you needing another appointment. I appreciate its difficult covering sickness at short notice, but covering this will then stop further appointments having to be booked in.
you would appear to need to know you were going to be ill at least 4/6 weeks in advance to book an appointment with your preferred doctor.if you are still capable of getting to the surgery you are a) not very poorly and b) extremely well looked after from then on.
Appointments when requested are so hard to get, obviously you cannot ring a week in advance of being ill ! Also managing to get the doctor of your choice can be an issue unless you are prepared to wait a while. Perhaps for those working, a different system can be implemented, whereby (apart from the triage service,) an earlier appointment can be offered within 24 hours. Nurses are friendly and helpful.
Requesting appointment on line recently worked really well but first appointment available was 10 days away.
During previous reviews on medication I had to make an appointment with doctor then nurse for blood test when I asked if I could have appointments after one another I was told no as I had to see doctor first then make a separate appointment after which meant 2 visits and 2 ocassions off work.
