Calan Mathieson operated on my spine on April 2015.
I have OPLL this was my first surgery so I was pretty nervous.
Calan put me at ease, he listens to you, and talks to you like a friend.
I can not thank him, and all the staff at the Neurosurgery unit for being so nice.
There is a possibility that I will need more surgery in the future, so knowing that they are there makes me feel safe.
Although I had to wait 11 months for my operation to correct spinal stenosis which was causing me extreme pain day and night with barely any respite with pain relief, I am so pleased I went ahead with it. Mr Calan Mathieson was very professional, succinct in his approach yet caring, and gave me back my life. I can now walk, swim and drive, which I couldn't do prior to my operation, and am heading towards greater fitness that I lost during my 18 months of incapacity. The staff at the Queen Elizabeth were also amazing. It feels like a miracle to me.
Mr. Calan Mathieson gave me my life back! He removed a spinal cord tumour that had caused increasing excruciating pain for nine months. As soon as Mr. Mathieson was assigned to my case, the treatment strategy, surgery and diagnosis commenced. I received the most outstanding level of support one could ever hope for. Mr.Mathieson is the most exceptional professional I have ever encountered - he is truly a master in his field. Thank you Mr. Mathieson, to your team and to all the support staff at the Queen Elizabeth hospital.
When I was diagnosed with my tumour I was admitted immediately and feared the worst. The following day a group of Doctors came to see me. I noticed a young man at the door and I knew straight away he had an air of confidence about him and I knew he would save my life. That man was Mr Callan Mathieson who saved my life. I got the all clear this year due to Mr Mathieson's expertise!! A massive thank you to Mr Mathieson and all his team from a grateful John Chalmers and family.
If Carling made neurosurgeons...... :)
After 7 operations and double the number of stays on his ward, I think I can speak with authority on Mr Calan Mathieson. He is, quite simply, a lovely person and it shines through in his work with patients. Very professional, knowledgeable, calm and patient - as others have said he makes time to speak to his patients especially if they are concerned or have questions. Calan has gone above and beyond at times, organising care for me when he isn't even working. Would highly recommend!
