Mr Barrie White has given the most excellent care at all times. My diagnosis was dealt with swiftly and efficiently, no time was spared in seeing me personnally after my scan showed the tumor: a Meningioma on my spine. He gave a thorough explanation of my condition and discusssed all aspects of the operation and recovery process. All other Drs involved, from my local GP onward, contacted each other promptly after the diagnosis, to ensure no time was wasted in getting the treatment I needed. Mr White also spoke to me personally, by telephone on a regular basis, to keep up to date with my condition while I was waiting for surgery and to deal with any queries I, or my family may have had. He ensured the surgery was undertaken as soon as possible, taking my persoanal situation into consideration; giving time to prepare me with steroids and ensuring my underlying health was at it's best prior to the big operation. I also met other members of Mr White's team, who were very personable and exceptionally professional and knowledgeable, and ensured a thorough investigation was made of my overall health and discussed the operation and recovery process with me and my husband. This gave me confidence in all aspects of the operation and personalised the whole experience. When I was in hospital, the staff involved in preparing me for the operation, nurses, porters, Dr's etc; were excellent, showing a freindly, caring and positive attitued which expelled any of the usual, pre-op anxiety. After the surgery, Mr White personally spoke to me on several occasions and both he and his assistant, Laurie, ensured my aftercare was correct and that I was recovering as expected; any problems or issues were discussed and dealt with. The staff in the 'special care' unit, in the days immediatley after the operation were superb; ensuring that all aspect of care at this most vulnerable time was undertaken thoroughly and with care and attention in a friendly and personable way. I cannot express how pleased I have been with the care given by Mr Barrie White and his team in dealing with the Meningioma on my spine

Mr Barrie White - First of all I thank him and the rest of the team at QMC for the care, diagnosis, surgery and after care I received in July 2012. I was admiited to QMC on June 26th 2012 due to the eagle eye of Doctor Hamilton - my GP at Keyworth Health Centre. I was admitted to the neurosurgery ward D12 QMC two days after being diagnosed as having serious tumour pressing on my spinal cord - known as a intradural menigioma. I had my op at 08.30 on July 4th - very quickly after the MRI scan result. Woke up at noon-ish with it all done. The aftercare at QMC was tremendously supportive and I left hospital on 10th July to recover further. My 3 month check up with Mr White on Oct 1st was excellent and he answered all my questions fully. How fortunate I was to have such a fantastic surgeon and medical team. Thank you Dorothy Parker

Mr White was excellent from our 1st consultation. He spent time explaining the risks that went with the surgery but also the risks if I didn't have the surgery. I waited less than 2 weeks for my urgent procedure. My wife and I felt that after our consultation that if anyone could prevent me from being paralysed it was Mr White! Professional from start to finish! I woke from my surgery to Mr white telling me all had gone to plan music to my ears. He called my wife as soon as my surgery was over to give the update on my operation and how it had gone. He came to see me with his nurse Laurie on the evening after my operation to talk to me, my wife and son with regards to how the operation went and it enabled my family to ask any questions. All I can say is if you are unfortunate enough to have a spinal cord Tumour interdural like myself and you are referred to Mr White and his excellent team rest assured if anyone can save you from being paralysed its Mr White if he can't no one can!!!! That's how confident this man made my wife and I feel! This man is our hero we can't thank him and his team enough. I am on the way to full recovery thanks to Mr White and his excellent team!!!

From the outset, even when explaining all the risks involved in complex spinal cord surgery, everything Mr White did and said just increased our confidence levels for a positive outcome. It was good to have the whole procedure explained in detail, and to be reassured that while complex and serious, intradural tumour resection is an operation that he performs several times a week, and isn't one that concerns him unduly. That was good enough for me! After the operation, Mr White's is the first face I recall seeing in recovery, where he informed me that the procedure had been successful. He then personally phoned my wife to give her the good news, which was hugely appreciated. Overall, Mr White is the antithesis of the stereotypical, aloof consultant. He was always willing to answer questions, both before the operation and as he did his ward rounds afterwards. I would wholeheartedly recommend him.

After a painfull 12months strugling with GP`s I was sent for a scan at QMC. Within days of getting the results Mr Barrie White rearranged his opps that week as he was due to go on holiday and operated on me as a matter of urgency. Both he and his team incuding all the nursinf staff were first class. I am now fully recovered and thank him for giving me back my life. Once again, thankyou Barrie White. Bob Rouse
