The background regarding my need for pain management is that I suffer from chronic pain in multiple joints 24/7/365 - i.e: Degenerative Lumbar Disc Disease (with prolapses & Osteoarthritis) in my spine for the last 26 years; Osteoarthritis & damaged joints in both knees for over 7 years; & unrepaired broken Scaphoid bones & Osteoarthritis in both wrists originating 30 years ago. The latter was mis-diagnosed at the time of injury, & now has resulted in chronic pain for more than 4 years. Over the last 10-15 years I have become less mobile due to the severe pain I suffer. I have made every effort to find ways to manage the pain both myself & by approaching GPs. I have had to fight for ALL of my pain management treatment from the NHS year after year. It has ONLY been the last 9 years that I have been receiving ANY support with pain management, as my previous GP refused to refer me to a Pain Clinic. As the years have passed, because of my immobility, I have gained significant weight. This has resulted in a BMI of over 40. I therefore currently do not qualify for knee, back or hand surgery. Many pain departments have used my weight as an excuse not to treat my pain, although I have gained the weight through immobility due to my pain levels. Dr Sadiq Bhayani is the first Pain Consultant to truly understand the link between pain, immobility & weight gain. He has treated me with dignity & compassion, & has explained in detail what can be achieved through proper pain management. He understands that going forward I need my pain levels to be reduced NOW so that I can become more mobile. With increased mobility, & the diet & lifestyle changes that I am already making, my weight-loss will be further optimised. Only then when the weight has reduced significantly can I receive surgery, as a more permanent solution, on my knees, back & wrists & finally start to live a normal life. Through Dr Bhayani's treatment to date, I am already more mobile than before I met him. Because of his treatment plan & expertise, he has been able to reduce the pain in my right knee by two-thirds. Prior to attending the Pain Clinic at Leicester General Hospital, the pain in my knees was never less than 8/10 - sometimes it was 10+. After having the Radio-Frequency Block in my right knee my pain is now down to never more than 3/10. Going forward, I am hopeful that I will soon receive the Radio-Frequency Block in my left knee, further increasing my mobility. I have waited SO long to find somebody of his ability & understanding to assist me with my situation. On Friday 2nd August 2019 Dr Bhayani was able to inform me that he had had a referral from my current GP regarding my back. He will arrange to see me in Clinic for a consultation to determine what can be done to reduce the pain levels in my back. I am hoping that he will be able to provide me with a pain management plan to further increase my mobility.

I have been a patient of Dr Bhayani for several years now, he genuinely has the best interests of the patient at heart, there is no need to remind him of my case history, the prep work is always done before I arrive, he listens, offers positive well-being advice for coping with long term pain. He fully explains my current treatment plan, and calms my nerves while in theatre during treatment. He is a Professional, Caring and Considerate Doctor, to which I am extremely fortunate to have for my care. I would have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Dr Bhayani and his team (Liz & Rita) were very good when I saw them on Friday 7th June 2019. I went in for injections, they explained everything to me before they moved on to the next stage. They were very kind, and I didn’t have a long wait which is always a bonus. The last time I had injections it was in a different part of the hospital, it was a much bigger room. This room didn’t seem big enough as there was a bed in the middle which was right in the way as my procedure needed to be done on a chair. Therefore they all kept having to walk around this bed. There is no where to put your bag and coat out of the way so they aren’t tripped over. So a bigger area for theses procedures would be better. I would highly recommend this team to anyone who needed this treatment.
