Dr Matt Ginks is brilliant. I've recently had a consultation with him as I have been experiencing random heart palpitations which I needed checking for my own peace of mind. Matt was great. Really friendly and personable. Matt sat me down and we started to go through what's been happening, again really polite and understanding. Matt then went over the initial ECG results which I had done and said that it looks completely normal but suggested we do an echocardiogram to make sure there isn't anything structurally wrong which I agreed to. After this he reviewed the results and he suggested that the heart palpitations are highly likely to be caused by ectopic beats which are benign. Matt then suggested possible treatment options including beta-blockers (although he said for me to avoid this if I can managed them) and suggested to get a 24 hour tape done just so we can log the palpitations on my record. Overall I cannot recommend Dr Ginks enough. He is very knowledgable, approachable, friendly and polite. He is very thorough with his tests and analysis. If you would like to see a Cardiologist then please consider Dr Matt Ginks.

I had probably been suffering from arrhythmia for quite a long time before I realised that it was making an impact on my life at 67 years, but wanting to be as active as a fifty year old. In contrast to an earlier experience elsewhere, Dr Ginks took a very different approach, empathetic and one of listening and understanding of my ambition to reinstate the active life I had previously valued. Straightforward explanations and illustrations followed and questions answered: it was easy to be led through the process, building confidence that the proposed treatment could be successful and that I would ultimately be able to regain the same levels of fitness of a few years previously as I had enjoyed before. A cardioversion was performed and demonstrated quite quickly that a normal heart rhythm could be reinstated. But it was short-lived and I reverted to AF. This did, however, indicate that a catheter ablation could well work for me and having worked through the risks and the procedure, I committed to undertake the operation. Great outcome: I have maintained sinus rhythm since the ablation and my AF symptoms, specifically breathlessness when taking any strenuous exercise, seem to be a thing of the past. I hesitated to write too quickly – in the immediate aftermath it all seemed a bit too good to believe, but six months down the line, I can say that I feel great and ready for a Munro! My thanks to the whole team at the Radcliffe – but above all to Dr Ginks for his encouragement and ability to build confidence in the treatment he recommended.

At 56 and having had arrhythmia (SVT) twice a month or more for many years and it becoming increasingly troublesome, particularly at meetings after travel - ie stress related - me having to sit in the car until it subsided - I was advised to see Dr Ginks during a annual Health Check. He was extrememly approachable, knowledgeable, informative and re-assuring during a consultation, confirming that this procedure was very normal in todays medicine and quite likely to be successful. Very transparent in his approach. It was easy to diarise both consultation and procedure, and on the day all went smoothly, including my husband being made to feel comfortable staying on-site waiting for me. Two months on, not a murmer from the heart! Job done!

I was first diagnosed with AF in Jan 18, had been aware that I had some kind of intermittant issue for a couple of months. Specialist recommended a cardioversion, which I had at the end of Feb, at this stage my AF had been constant for 5 weeks. The cardioversion restored a normal rythym for 5 weeks but I then went back into AF. At this stage I was recommended to Dr Ginks. I met Dr Ginks early in May, from here I can only echo what others have said. We sat and spoke through all the options, his calm and professional manner soon gives you upmost confidence in his ability and knowledge. He laid out clearly what an ablation entailed and the potential risks, as well as all of the benefits. We agreed an ablation was the way forward and set a date. Its now 8 weeks since the surgery, recovery has been great. Met with Dr Ginks at the 7 week stage, very thorough meeting: even discussed the likliehood of further surgery. The guy is a total professional, leaves no stone unturned. Yesterday I completed my first 10k train run of the year. Life is getting back to normal, huge thanks to Dr Ginks and his team.

I can only endorse what others have said. I had a catheter ablation in December 2016 and am currently free of drugs and my heart rhythm is steady. It is difficult to express how life changing this feels. I am still grateful every day to Dr Ginks for giving me my life back. I was pretty traumatised when I was struck by AF with a high heart rate almost a year ago out of the blue and Dr Ginks has enabled me to get back to normal and do the things I used to do. Even if I need additional treatment at a later stage I am confident in Dr Ginks' ability to sort me out. I think the most important thing though, apart from his obvious skill as a surgeon, is Dr Ginks' reassuring and kind manner. I have always felt fully informed and never patronised and he has always been available to answer questions and reassure me when I needed it. The only thing I can say is thank you. Doesn't seem enough really.
