I had a family member with a potentially serious neurological condition and I chose Dr Thorpe to review and assess. I have to say the entire experience was excellent. His manner was at all times professional and I had the great pleasure of witnessing a masterclass in clinical assessment and communication. My family member was kept entirely at ease and left completely reassured and happy. I have no concerns in wholly endorsing Dr Thorpe - he is a true gentleman.

It could have been useful had this doctor actually seen me! Following a GP referral to. Dr Thorpe (recommended by another consultant at PCH as part of a treatment pathway) we heard nothing and the crucial weeks, then months to receive treatment passed with no contact. I was asked to chase the referral (s) up. I spoke to a polite lady who was surprised I'd heard nothing, looked up the waiting list and found nothing. Unhappy and more surprised, the lady found my hospital records. She found on file a note from Dr Thorpe stating he did not need to see me, I should live life as normal and as an after thought try doing something myself. The latter I had done for months after being seen in the ED! BUT, I had not been told, I had wasted a window of opportunity for treatment and then had to look for hospitals elsewhere that would treat me. I found out some months later from an ED doctor that the treatment I needed WAS AVAILABLE in PCH, and since then others who have been treated. I have no respect for Dr Thorpe, I know he would not declare the summary refusal of treatment, BUT he could have had the courtesy to inform me! No patient should waste vital treatment windows in the hope they will receive such, let alone not be informed the treatment is denied. Thankfully I have gone elsewhere where I do receive treatment as needed.

I have an extremely rare lifelong condition which was diagnosed by Dr Thorpe after seeking advice from several other consultants from different disciplines; I mean no disrespect to them, this is a difficult condition to diagnose and I saw Dr Thorpe at a time when certain symptoms made diagnosis "easier". Since that original diagnosis I have been involved in my treatment and have felt part of a team: me as the expert on my body and symptoms and Dr Thorpe as the expert on my condition and treatment options. I always feel my opinions are treated with respect and I am never pushed into treatments; I feel we are jointly involved in treatment decisions. If it is not implicit in the above statements, I feel that Dr Thorpe has a naturally empathic manner and I could give very good examples which prove this. I could not recommend a doctor more highly.

Dr Thorpe has a wonderful manner; he's empathetic and offers suggestions based on individual needs as opposed to feeling like you're being processed. He's friendly, funny and really takes notice of the details explained to him. I suffer with migraines and have felt dismissed to some extent in the past by GP's as just needing more painkillers instead of getting to the root cause. Dr Thorpe made me feel like I was an individual with personal needs and understood that to me, it's important and needs more than just more tablets. Grateful for his advice, time and suggestions on further treatment. Would recommend him fully.

When we arrived at our appointment at PCH we discovered it was a 'virtual appointment' which meant we weren't actually supposed to attend hospital. The receptionist contacted Dr Thorpe who agreed to see us in a side room. To our surprise, he had read all my husbands notes and gave him a extremely thorough examination with a clear diagnosis. No sooner had this been done Dr Thorpe arranged an immediate MRI scan. We returned from the scan to find him looking for us having had already contacted Addenbrookes hospital to arrange an immediate admission. My husband had his op and was extremely pleased to be examined once again by Dr Thorpe who works at both sites. At a time of extreme anxiety, we found Dr Thorpe to be extroidinarily containing because of his professionalism and care. He filled us with utter confidence and went above and beyond at every step. The service we received was amazing and could not have been bettered by private care.

Dr Thorpe was friendly, understanding, listened well gave clear information. He was not at all patronising but showed empathy and is clearly extremely intelligent - he filled me with confidence that he had an excellent understanding of my concerns and I felt that I could be confident in his diagnosis.
