I was diagnosed with nuropathy which is in my feet and lim s due to diabetes. The pain is chronic and my GP decided to add to amatriptaline, which I was ready on and she added pregablin. I was perscribed 75 mg a day at first then Dr said it would be increased to 200mg andthat's when it started working for me it really took the edge off my pain and I took 100mg in morning and 100mg at bedtime so the pain didn't stop me sleeping. Unfortunately there is 2 major problems with this medicatio as I my experience. The first is that you soon build up a tollerence to pregablin so it needs increasing with most people ending up on 600mg a day, split as 300mg in morning and 300mg at night (pregablin is a twice a day medication) Because tolerance to the drug soon grows and . most gps don't perscribe over 600 mg a day when i am in bad pain I am tempted to take extra which leaves me short as I run out and end up with none. It's then when not only is the Pain in full swing but the withdrawal from the pregablin sets off and it's one of the worst experiences there ever is,even worse than a heroin withdrawal. I just want to warn people who are new to pregablin or are thinking of asking the doctor to perscribe it to be warned it's no picnic medication In fact last year it was actually made a controlled drug like methadone,.morphine has been

Caused dopamine surges hard enough to cause cardiovascular discomfort. Irritability. Addiction. No nhs perogative for weaning. Increased prescription rates due to pressure on nhs to prescribe less opiods due to "opiod crisis". This is very clearly far more damaging. Seems to be handed out without diagnostic investigation. Apon reaching discomfort i was told by chronic pain specialist to "increase dose". Luckily my gp who actually bothers to look at my file and the side affects of medications knew what it was and advised me not to increase. My syevere symptoms passed. Luckily i weaned off myself as it turns out now i may have a serious heart problem that has been aggravated early in life by poorly prescribed medicines like pregabalin aka lyrica. You would think a pharmacological practitioner at a hospital would advise medications based on the individual. Unfortunately it is clearly a drug that is encouraged to be used in my local area (a small island) as its popping up everywhere. everyones on it and half the people i know on it dont know what it is and are experiencing similair problems. It definitely gets you high. Doesnt do much for pain at all. If anything more likely to experience pain and emotional disregulation. Worst drug ive ever been prescribed. Very expensive too. 30 pounds per pill when i was first prescribed it. That was just a 50 mg dose. Ridiculous way to fix an opiod crisis. Repkace it with something more expensive more dangerous and less effective.

When I first started to take this, I was warned by the pain clinic and my own GP the dangers of not being careful and correctly titrating the medication. Due to gag reflex I cannot take the pill version I have to have the liquid version 20mg/1ml. It can be difficult to get hold of and for a while in 2017 there was a shortage from the manufacturer/distributor. The liquid allowed me to titrate in very low doses which was my key to tolerating this powerful drug which I take for neuropathic pain. My tolerance is quite good and have been told the levels best to titrate under guidance from Pain Clinic/GP. This allows me to take maybe 50mg for a few days, up to 75mg then 100mg then maybe back down to 50mg when I feel the need. A powerful drug and be very careful when you start to take it; I remembered one morning early on in my treatment plan whilst having breakfast the TV on a stand in the corner of the room decided to move across the floor!! Driving that day was not an option so be careful and only drive if you are absolutely safe to do so.

Be very careful with this medication as if you have a problem with your weight anyway you will put on more without a doubt even if your eating habits don't change on the plus side it works so well for neuropathic pain
