I was diagnosed with nuropathy which is in my feet and lim s due to diabetes. The pain is chronic and my GP decided to add to amatriptaline, which I was ready on and she added pregablin. I was perscribed 75 mg a day at first then Dr said it would be increased to 200mg andthat's when it started working for me it really took the edge off my pain and I took 100mg in morning and 100mg at bedtime so the pain didn't stop me sleeping. Unfortunately there is 2 major problems with this medicatio as I my experience. The first is that you soon build up a tollerence to pregablin so it needs increasing with most people ending up on 600mg a day, split as 300mg in morning and 300mg at night (pregablin is a twice a day medication) Because tolerance to the drug soon grows and . most gps don't perscribe over 600 mg a day when i am in bad pain I am tempted to take extra which leaves me short as I run out and end up with none. It's then when not only is the Pain in full swing but the withdrawal from the pregablin sets off and it's one of the worst experiences there ever is,even worse than a heroin withdrawal. I just want to warn people who are new to pregablin or are thinking of asking the doctor to perscribe it to be warned it's no picnic medication In fact last year it was actually made a controlled drug like methadone,.morphine has been
