My Husband was in I.C.U for 2 nights and part of one day. He was then returned to his room and I was told he could go home. I did not agree and was told by the nurse BUPA had covered us for two nights only. BUPA told me that if my Husband needed to stay longer it was o.k. We got the discharge papers around 8.30.p.m. Saturday evening and I had to wait for my carer to arrive to help me. By this time I was told the porters had gone home, a wheelchair was handed to me and I had to do the rest with my carer to get my Husband into the chair and lift down to the entrance of the Hospital where there was no one around in the pouring rain. I checked at the nurses station on the ward and found no staff, lights were all out, not a sign of any nursing staff. It was very clear to me that the unit had been closed and the staff wanted my Husband out. I cannot tell you how displeased I was to take him home after just coming out of I.C.U. into the bad weather conditions at 9.p.m. on Saturday night. We are insured on the Doctors plan of BUPA and I think the whole situation of the hospital was dreadful. My Husband should have been discharged on the following Monday. Since his discharge he has been very unwell . I am taking this matter further. Just to advise you he is a retired Consultant.

A student 'nurse' who was unaccompanied came into my room to remove a saline dipper (a needle attached to my vein), she removed it incorrectly and blood began to pour from my hand, the nurse quickly left the room (and did not call any help and left us there, she 'panicked') and my mother was shouting in the hallway for help, we pressed the emergency button several times but no one came, I lost lots of blood and felt dozy, after my mother was shouting in the hallway the receptionist called a nurse and she fixed it, at this moment my upper hand was completely covered with blood and the bed sheets were also covered in blood, the nurses noticed my mother taking pictures of the scene, two nurses quickly came into the room to remove the blood stained bed-sheets (seemed like a first priority - remove the evidence) . The nurse who fixed the saline dipper pretended as If I lost a very small amount of blood and as if I was over-reacting. My mother asked what was the name of the student nurse (so we could make a complaint) and she turned her head with attitude and said her first name, and left the room. An hour later the student and the 'sister' (top-top nurse) came in and the student began apologizing, (mostly to my mother and sister and not me) they said it shouldn't of happened and it was her mistake, she said she was in training, as if I'm a guinea pig & training while she was unaccompanied. The 'sister' told us they would inform us in 2 days on how to complain (since we requested it and wanted to take action by complaints and if necessary law) and after 2 days they did not send us anything, we found out how to complain online anyway. The receptionist also claimed she did not know how to complain when asked, if it was not for my mother staying with me I would probably die in this place, it must be very cheap for surgeons to send you to this hospital, a private hospital where you pay premium price and suffer because student 'nurses' can't take out a dipper from your hand without making you fear for your life, I was crying in the hospital because I was put in so much shock, this incident temporarily scarred me even after the surgery, and why is there students in a PRIVATE hospital? Place is also unhygienic, I opened the first drawer and saw rubbish. I was so shocked to see this, countries like Afghanistan or Pakistan healthcare is much better than this, please stay safe anyone who goes to this place. They were very good at covering each others back to get rid of the blame after this incident happened, also they all worked together and made as much excuses as possible & you will get no sympathy, they just cover each others back all the time. We are awaiting court action

Was very surprise after emergency department which was fantastic , admit me to hospital where is completely messy and everything running nurses , very unprofessional and incompetent . Dr came one a day to check me and maybe I wasn't to die but illness was serious . Of course couldn't compare with nhs hospital but for £1000 a night I will expect a treatment with all respect

The hospital, staff and admin procedures are generally as to be expected. Parking spaces are hard to find at certain times of the day meaning arriving well in time is essential as it can take 10 minutes or more to find a spot.

I attended the BMI Churchill as a day patient for a minor surgical procedure. I had originally been due to attend in the afternoon. I was contacted two days prior and asked if I would mind attending in the morning instead, because I was currently the only patient on the list in the afternoon and this would allow them to avoid having to pay the anesthetist (actual reason given). I somewhat reluctantly agreed, as it meant rearranging my work schedule to accommodate. By way of incentive, they informed me that if I turned up by 7.15 am, they would put me first on the list. I turned up at 7am. I was then shown to my room, where I was kept waiting for *seven hours* (until 2pm) before my procedure. During this time I was, of course, not allowed to eat or drink as I was nil-by-mouth due to the operation being performed under a general anesthetic. I was the last patient to operated on for the day's list, not the first. I can appreciate that, on occasion, there are delays. I'm sure we all deal with those in our day-to-day lives. However, to originally be told that I would be at the top of the list (which sets an expectation) and then for there to be absolutely no information whatsoever as to when I would be seen, led to a very long and very frustrating wait. Had someone said "I'm sorry there's a delay, you'll be seen in four hours" I wouldn't have been pleased, but I would at least have been informed. But no - instead, there was very little effort made to find out when my procedure would be undertaken (despite asking more than once), and the nursing staff seemed to feel that this state of affairs was acceptable. My room overlooked the car park and was particularly warm with the sun shining on to the windows all morning. Everyone commented when they came into the room as to how warm it was. I was extremely dehydrated after 7 hours without fluids. Nothing was done to prevent or mitigate this. Overall I found the nursing staff to be a) lacking in empathy, b) indifferent, c) careless, d) lacking in communication skills with poor English. One nurse (whose name was Alysha) and who, sadly, was a student nurse only temporarily there, showed more empathy in all her dealings with me than the rest of her colleagues put together. An example of this is where Alysha was assisting a more senior nurse in changing my dressings. The more senior nurse was most interested in changing the dressing in the minimum amount of time and with the minimum amount of effort. Alysha was most interested in changing the dressing while causing the minimum amount of pain. The two approaches were markedly different. A similar minor illustration came when Alysha wished to remove the cannula from my hand. The senior nurse was all for ripping off the sticking label (and all of the hair on my hand with it); Alysha was quite happy for me to peel the label off my hand with significantly less discomfort. While simple examples, these were indicative of the general attitude of the nurses. Most of the nurses knocked before entering the room (there is no lock on the door). Some didn't feel a need to bother. One entered the room while I was in the bathroom, and continued to do her paperwork in my room while she waited for me to emerge. The door was frequently left open after they had entered, so that anyone walking past could easily see in. The food was simplistic and not much better than you'd expect on the NHS. I requested fruit salad *and* a sorbet, and was told in no uncertain terms that I was allowed only one desert. For the amount paid, and given that my "main course" consisted of a jacket potato with tuna (from a can, served in a separate plastic tub; no mayonnaise) and coleslaw (served in a separate plastic tub and hand-delivered several minutes after the rest of the meal), one hardly feels that they had spent so much of their budget on food that they couldn't afford to "go wild" and give an extra portion of fruit salad. The food arrived an hour after it was ordered. Water was provided. It tasted of disinfectant. It is highly recommended that you take your own, bottled water. The water from the tap in the room has a "do not drink" sign over it. The location was generally clean. It reminded me of a Holiday Inn hotel that had last been refurbished in the 1950s. The theatre staff were professional and capable. The remainder of the staff (Alysha, bless her heart, excluded) were uncaring and indifferent throughout. Overall - never again.

The hospital is very welcoming and we were dealt with very quickly at the reception desk. Having only had an outpatient appointment I am unable to comment on the care provided by nurses etc.

This is a good hospital. I had no complaints because everyone did their best for me. In the hours following my surgery I was attended to constantly and meticulously; I very much felt I was in safe hands. Also comfortable and well-appointed.
