Review of Mandarin Ward A

Apart from OBS being taken at regular intervals I received no communications from any medical professional whatsoever. I had no information whatsoever regarding the reason why I had been admitted. My medication was changed with out any reason being given. All in all I would have been better off at home,at least I would have got out of bed, I was kept in bed the whole time. RUBBISH

Suggested improvements
Just read the above. It would have been better not to have been in the.corridor for 72 hours. It would have been better to have been got out of bed. Most important I was admiring because my legs became paralysed possibly due to a reaction to a COVID activity but I was never told why it happened or what treatment I should have

Review of Outpatient Team 2

I am speaking on behalf of my mother. I took my mum for an Ophthalmology appt at Queens. She is 91 and suffers with Alzheimer’s. She was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. She was given time to formulate her answers and spoken to about her care and treatment. The nurses were very kind. The doctor was very patient giving me time to get my mum into place and comfortably seated at the machines. She is attending appointments every three months and the care is amazing.

Suggested improvements
We are at the hospital for a long time, on some occasions 4 hours (obviously we expect delays as we have to queue for the different tests etc). This is very wearing on my mum as she falls asleep and/or gets very agitated. The Sunday appointments are less crowded and we get through much quicker. It would be appreciated if we could specify, given the circumstances, a Sunday appointment for my mother.

The staff are all amazing, especially considering how many people they're caring for. I'm very grateful for their expertise, kindness and going the extra mile.

Suggested improvements
Make the corridor walls more interesting. I spent a day in various corridors and some pictures would have been a good distraction. Also more chairs available for those accompanying patients so they don't have to stand for hours.

The waiting time in the A&E department is way too long. I appreciate the staff were trying their best but a wait of over 9 hours is just too long despite the fact I was taken in with an ambulance.

Suggested improvements
Reduced the waiting times please

Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency

Initial triage was very quick and waiting for initial assessment was long with no indication of waiting time but was at least comfortable. Time to see the doctor after the initial assessment was very unacceptable, uncomfortable and uninformative. One nurse informed the waiting crowd of the order to see the doctor but this still gave no information regarding wait times and the given order wasn't followed. Having seen the doctor the process speeded up and the room was more comfortable. The nurse in charge was extremely compassionate and competent but was clearly unwilling to delegate many of the simpler tasks due to trust in the ability of the team members. This lack of trust was justified as : 1. placing the ecg contacts to my chest was totally messed up by one nurse and had to be done by the head nurse 2. Three attempts to take blood from a decent vein were made by a nurse before the head nurse intervened and took blood immediately from the same vein. Once a decision had been made by the doctor regarding a diagnosis , a bed was found very quickly, a porter was found and I was moved without any issues.

Suggested improvements
A number of people were totally confused about where to go on arrival to A&E due possibly to lack of understanding or ability to read English. After coming through the main A&E door the order of the areas you pass currently are: 1. Initial Assessment waiting room 2. Doctor waiting room 3. Initial triage window / room This led to many many newly arrived people queuing up in the initial assessment room or doctors waiting room prior to being triaged. Some had been queuing for hours before finally being advised to go to the initial triage window . Even after triage some people were incorrectly going directly to the doctors waiting room as this is the first door they see after being triaged and again waiting for hours before being redirected. This mess could very easily be avoided by the availability of volunteers to greet and give a guidance / better signs / ensuring that the logical flow of areas is correct when you first enter A&E. Current wait times could be displayed when entering A&E.
