Review of Outpatient Team 4

Outpatients never contacted me to reappoint visit to surgeon. It's hard to contact the department as phone not answered and answer phone messages not returned. It took me 8 months to finally see surgeon following an MRI only to find out I need a shoulder replacement. However surgeon and nurses great when I did get an appointment.

Suggested improvements
Outpatients need to reappoint visit following MRI and be easier to contact.

Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency
14th June 2024

I am paraplegic 85 year old on a trolley in a corridor with breathing problems In Medical receiving unit at 8pm asked for incontinence pad change but not done until 3am next day. Discharged at four pm by registrar on Thursday 13th (cardiologist) but no paper work done by 7pm and nights in Bluebell A unbearable owing to noise from dispenser on corridor wall used by staff and one night a visitor was allowed in at 10.20 pm to collect phone and I am light sensitive owing to meningitis and could not sleep for five nights. Getting a CT scan or echocardiogram near impossible and as an informed patient in A&E on Saturday in June the NHS is not fit for purpose knowing that winter raises demand but each PFI hospital reduced beds by 30 per cent and one hospital cannot replace Oldchurch, Harold Wood and Rush Green! No wonder staff are stressed as there is no possible work/life balance and NHS Resolution figures for damages are almost beyond belief! No other country has copied NHS model for sound reasons see Tim Knox Civitas 2019 comparative statistics. I am educated in law, statistics, economics, medical history since Galen, case law anatomy and physiology and have a Ph.D consultant in my family Not fit for purpose although as a CML cancer patient I know staff do their best but I am helpless at age 85 years in a wheelchair

Suggested improvements
In the circumstances with a few exceptions the staff did their best and recognised that I am highly informed and always polite But, in this model of healthcare, the staff are condemned like Sysiphus and the boulder never to succeed Patients should have responsibilities as well as rights but the abuse of the health service by patients who do not attend appointments or are violently aggressive is proof that this model does not and cannot ever work! I hope I do not die in an NHS hospital based on my experience as an in patient

Staff polite and friendly, as was the lady doctor. All apologised for the long wait.

Suggested improvements
The waiting time was excessive! Staff did apologise but it was poor management.
