Review of Amber Ward A

Generally very good however limited knowledge on diabetes and dietary control to reduce blood sugars among general nursing staff is limited comments about food intake were inappropriate and caused a little distress. That said this was limited and i was apologized to regarding this. I must say that a few staff members really stood out as exceptional those being Matt, Vinay, Dani and a young nurse from Dublin whose name i have forgotten they really do go the extra mile.

Suggested improvements
Better Diabetes knowledge

All of the nurses on the dayshift fantastic no problems at all go out of their way to help there was one occasion on the night shift where one of the Knight staff would not talk to me because apparently according to her I was not her patient. I was just asking her if she could change my bed as my bed had broken she just ignored me. I had to argue with the woman as if it was her own bed in the end, sister replace my bed no problem at all just that one awkward night nurse

Suggested improvements
No complaint at all apart from that one awkward nurse everything else fantastic very clean very polite good nurse and staff

I received excellent feedback on tests done and given lots of information about next steps as well as medication and prescriptions. Where test results were not available same day as it took time to complete I was given the results the very next day.

Suggested improvements
Nothing to add here.

Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency - Childrens
25th April 2024

The receptionist at the Urgent care (A&E) was ignorant. Could not find my child's details on system and become frustrated with me. He then confirmed that he found my son's details and I should proceed to see the nurse. The nurse saw my son and while she was checking him I was able to see the computer screen when I noticed that my son's details was wrong. His name was completely wrong, no NHS no on the system. I raised my concern with the nurse and she confirmed that she will get it corrected and obtain his NHS number. I trusted her and proceeded to the waiting area to be seen my the doctor. After waiting approx 3 hours the doctor saw us for a assessment and I rechecked my son's details and still it was wrong. I explained to the doctor that is my son's details was wrong then how can feedback/follow up be provided to my GP. Doctor appeared uninterested and requested I talk to reception. Since we was referred to a surgeon we had to go back to reception to book in again. On booking back in I asked the receptionist if he could correct the details (same receptionist). He seems quite annoyed that I asked him to correct the details. He said to me that "because I was in a rush" he could not get the correct details??? So I guess it was my fault because I was in A&E with my 8 year old child who was in serious abdomen pain and my sense of urgency to get my son seen my a medical professional (my rush) caused the receptionist to make a major mistake with my son's personal details. I kept my claim and wrote my Son's details on a peace of paper and asked the receptionist if he could "please" kindly double check and make sure the details are correct. At first he appeared angry and annoyed that I had asked him to recheck the details but as other member of staff was present along with other patients he reluctantly checked. "Lord behold" this time he found all the correct details!?! I wonder why? Was it because he could not be bothered at the begining to check properly??

Suggested improvements
Employ staff that are willing and able to work in a people/public facing role. Understand that people that come to hospital do not come here for picnic but because they need medicine assistant. The patient is in discomfort/distress and ignorance and bad attitude do not help in any way, not for them or the patient.
