Helpful.
Cheerful.
2/3/17.
From start to finish nurses were caring and explained everything to me so I understood everything about treatment and what was wrong and how to put right. Thank you.
I took my mother, Elsie Cadby for a six o'clock appointment in the audiology department.
We were seen by Lynn Alison who showed great patience in her treatment of my mother. She was very professional and had a caring approach to the problem.
Thank you for your help.
Kind Regards
Sharon Chapman
I went to A+E on Friday night for severe vomiting and an episode of vomiting with blood. Before I see the doctor the blood cleared but I continued to vomiting. By the way I'm a non-drinker. I had bloods taken and was told it was normal. I was happy with the explanation but I was still profusely vomiting, witnessed by the doctor who's seen me. I asked for anti-sickness medication to take home. The doctor initially suggested a few options of those but then he went to discuss with another doctor who just looked dismissively at me. They decided to not give me anything and advised for me to see GP for it. It's the weekend and I haven't registered to GP locally so that would be impossible. I continued to vomit and worsen as I was unable to take any foods or fluids until I get to see a GP on Monday who gave me antisickness medication. The meds helped a lot. I don't understand why is it so difficult to give a medication to control a clearly shown symptom which would help me sooner if I could get it that night. Could've saved me from suffering the lethargy and dehydration over the weekend and get to convalescense sooner.
I had to wait over an hour past my appointment time. I asked 3 times when I would be seen and each time was told I would be next. Nurses and assistants seemed lethargic and unconcerned. When I eventually saw the Dr. he did not seem to take on board the information I told him, I took photos along with me to show him, when I said he could put them in my file he said no. He said to make an "open" appointment to come back when the systems were at their worst. When I saw the receptionist she said there was no such thing as an "open" appointment, she just gave me the Drs. private secretaries number. Whole experience seemed a waste of my time and the hospitals.
I had no problem with pre assessment, until it came to blood test, for which I had to go and wait for almost 2 hours, this should be done at the time of assessment by the health professional I was dealing with .As a person who spends a lot of time at various appointments within Queens I seem to spend a lot of time waiting .
The good:
- We felt extremely well looked after and cared for
- Midwifes were really attentive, caring and calming
- It was nice to have a combination of experienced and student midwife care
- Staff in the hospital were really professional
- I was glad to see the level of hygiene being exceptionally high
- Staff gave loads of additional support, especially to establish infant feeding
Room for improvement:
- Reduce number of people running in and out of the hospital room were possible
- Batch child / mother examinations where possible
- Reduce disturbances from Sodexo staff. There is no need to have somebody come and ask about the food order. A simple paper sheet would suffice to make the meal choices and thereby reduce traffic in and out of patient rooms
- The number of different staff obstetricians, pediatricians, nursery nurses, midwifes and general nurses can be overwhelming and due to shift changes it is often hard to recognise the role of different staff. Repeated introductions and role explanations (a booklet/website would do to) could help making this easier to follow for patients
