I am well aware of the negative press the NHS and other emergency services get so I feel compelled to give feedback on my recent experience. Never having spent a night in hospital ever, being taken in at my age 57, was quite an experience. While kidney stones are not particularly serious they are definitely painful. From the first contact with the paramedics I have to say the staff were fantastic. I can’t name anyone in particular as I was not with it at all, but everyone I met over the two days were just superb. Great care and understanding was given throughout. I can’t suggest any changes as in my experience it was spot on. Thank you to all staff involved in my care.

Don't ever go to this hospital if you are dealing with chronic pain. They look at you with distain and are unsympathetic even though they can clearly see your in agony. I can not say all the staff were bad. However those select few certainly left a impression that will last for years. I just hope to god that if they were inflicted by an illness that caused the pain all the time that they find people better suited to the care profession than I did.

My grandson fell down the stairs and twisted his foot we did the normal things like raise it put ice on it and made his rest. but a few hours later he was no better. We took him A&E he was seen fairly quickly, had a X Ray was told nothing wrong they strapped his foot then a nurse proceeded to drag him around the dept whilst he screamed. she then informed us that he was acting and would soon get over it as long as he walked on it A few days later he was still in pain and we took him to the Minor injuries unit in Port Talbot, we were told he had 4 broken bones in his foot and had to be put in plaster. They looked at the same X Ray as Bridgend had used, how come they didn't see it!!!!! It makes you wonder what else can go wrong.

The Welsh NHS and the NHS in general get a bad press but I received the absolute best of care at this hospital by numerous nurses, doctors, surgeons, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, caterers, cleaners, oncologists, occupational therapists, etc, etc. It was such a large amount of people that healed me I am unable to do them all justice with words. I went in with 3 months to live and came out with hope. That was two years ago and I will be grateful to the NHS as long as I live.

Had to pay for private treatment in the end as this hospital only seems to throw pain killers at you. I have been admitted 7 times in the last 4 months as I need an operation and I am in terrible pain. However, as I am not dying I have to wait even though the previous procedure that did in me failed resulting in my pain.So they made me worse and do not seem to want to fix me. It's more like a Pharmacy waiting room then a hospital. It must have cost loads with all the medication food and bed blocking I have had and done just for a 90 minute operation. No wonder the NHS is haemorrhaging money with hospitals like this.

Review of Ward 8 written by a patient
26th August 2016

Tha staff at Ward 8 were outstanding. They were kind, professional and efficient. The doctors were also great. They spoke to me in a way that I would comprehend without making me feel like a problem that needed fixing. I don't think anything needs improving.
