Review of A&E NPH
23rd January 2013

My mother was taken in by ambulence, overnight two weeks ago. I would like to express my appreciation for the care that was provided by all the staff in the A and E department. the compassion and consideration shown is to be commended. It enabled an frail lady in her 89th year to go home later in the day. Her family are very grateful

Review of Fielding
21st January 2013

I was sent to the A&E as an emergency on the night of 15 December..After being examined I was admitted to the HDU. Obviously I was quite ill and the care and attention I received from the doctors and nurses was exceptional..I was in the unit for eight days and then was well enough to be transferred to Fielding Ward. Again the care I received from the doctors, nurses and physiotherapist was exceptional and I was made to feel that everyone was willing me to get well. I was discharged on 31 December . My experience in hospital was so good that I only have praise.

Review of A&E NPH
8th January 2013

I recently had a couple of trips to the Northwick Park A&E. On the 31st of December I noticed some light bleeding, I was 9 weeks pregnant, and my GP could not see me so I went to A&E. Since I had no other symptoms the Dr in Urgent Care sent me home. I went back on the 2nd of January due to the bleeding increasing. The Dr I saw in Urgent Care at least took some interest and said I seemed fine, I again had no other symptoms, but that she would ask them to book me for an early scan just to be sure. I actually felt like she cared and that I was really getting assisted. On the 3rd of January I went back to A&E because I was passing blood clots and in severe pain. I was seen very quickly by Urgent Care, this is where my positive thoughts on this visit stop. Whilst doing my urine sample I passed my baby. It was clearly visible in the sample tube. The Dr I saw in Urgent Care was only interested in the fact that my bloood pressure and my temperature were fine. She kept insisting they could not be sure I was miscarrying and that the tissue in the tube could be anything, despite the fact that you could clearly make out the features of a fetus. She then tried to send me home, because my blood pressure and temp were fine, she said there was nothing else she could do for me. At this point I became a bit hysterical. Eventually she asked me to leave the room, I'm assuming so she didn't have to continue to look at me crying. In the end I was referred back to A&E to see a gyno who confirmed that I had indeed miscarried. I spent approximately an hour in the waiting room of the A&E waiting for this service whilst in severe pain, bleeding and well losing a child. I completely understand that pregnant women can be a bit irrational. However, I have never been made to feel so ridiculous. Even when I was clearly in pain and obviously passing a lot of blood the Dr only seemed interested in sending me home. I have heard a lot of complaints about Northwick Park and have defended the hospital on regular occasions because I received stellar care when I had my first child in 2011. However, this expierence has made me question if I will be returning there again should I decide to have another child. I definitely won't be defending the hospital any longer. The lack of compassion from some of your Drs is astonishing.

Review of Florence Ward - Postnatal
20th April 2012

I was not very with it following a c section and did not realise I could ring a bell for help. I was left to tend to my baby, getting in and out of bed on my own all through the night on 1st night to feed him (after same day casearian) as noone came to check on me - I was right at the end of the ward, It was boiling hot as we had a heat wave and radiators were unable to be switched off. One nurse on duty one night was however very supportive and did keep an eye on me and gave some words of support that I was really grateful for. I had to stay 3 nights & had to plead to leave crying on day 4 as my white blood count was still high... it was one of the hardest things I've done..and I've endured a few things! Getting home was just amazing. If there's a next time at a different hospital I would think about discharging myself but at that time I was so vulnerable and my brain was not functioning, 4 hrs sleep in 3 nights.. (Discharged 21/4/11, no option below for 2011)

The nurse that cared for me was very nice, reassuring and caring. I was not left wanting, and she also eliminated my fear, which helped me prepare for my operation very well.
