Hospital was clean and staff have been very friendly during my time at the hospital. I have had several appointments for my daughter.
Very professional staff.
Beaconsfield East Ward - what a dreadful place! My father was given sporadic rehab but spent most of his time feeling like a prisoner, staring at the walls. Medically, the chosen approach was excessive diuretics coupled with intermittent rehydration with a drip. He was thirsty most of the time. Worst of all, the visiting arrangements were ONE visitor per day for no more than TWO hours, and they interrogate you about your precise relationship with the patient. A callous way to treat elderly, frail patients, to deprive them of family support. I did not have the impression that there was a competent care plan, and I was frequently tempted to take the patient home even if it was contrary to medical advice.
I cannot fault the staff in Pagett Ward after my hysterectomy, especially Mona, Lakshmi, Karen and there was also another person on night duty who was wonderful. They took care to put me at ease and look after me. They had the right amount of friendliness and professionalism and were so approachable. They made a very scary and stressful experience much more bearable.
The only criticism I have was the attitude of the staff who came to take blood tests on the wards. One of the care team had forgotten to put Emla cream on me before she left and thus it eventually went on very late. The team that came to take blood tests were very dismissive of my fear (I have a HUGE phobia of needles) and tried to tell me the cream would work in 5 - 15 minutes when I know from years of experience it takes at least an hour. They were rude, uncaring and very abrupt. In the end, a lovely doctor came to my aid and very kindly offered to do the blood test an hour later.. I understand the staff cannot come to the ward whenever to take tests but their uncaring attitude and lack of compassion was startling given how everyone else had been so understanding. After their visit my blood pressure also skyrocketed as they had stressed me out so much. Perhaps training could be offered to them on how to deal with extremely phobic-patients.
Otherwise, I was extremely impressed with the care of all the other staff and how quickly they responded to any needs. Whilst I hope to never have need to have surgery again, I would not have any qualms about going back here. Even the pre-op staff were amazing and compassionate too. Thank you!
