Review of Fleetwood Urgent Treatment Centre
27th April 2021

I felt the service on the phone was amazing, the service as I entered was amazing- however the staff that I saw were very blasé about the fact that I was there. I explained that when my sciatica does flare up, and due to the fall I had on top of the flare up- I knew exactly what was needed for the pain (what worked and what didn’t- as it’s been trail and error over the years, what works for one won’t always work for another) as I had been dealing with it it for so long. I was shunned off, not listened to properly and questioned of my knowledge comparatively to the doctor prescribing. The only reason I didn’t go to my doctors was due to there being no apps available and being in so much pain. There was no way on earth I wanted to be sat in the walk in centre with two very young children, no food or drinks for them, wearing a mask, dripping in sweat after a long, hot day at work and being in agony, hardly able to sit let alone stand- So I feel like I made a wasted journey and was treated as though I was there regularly asking for help or was treated like I wasn’t important. Regardless of if I was there regularly (I’m not! Ever) I pay my taxes, I work hard, I contribute to society and during a time of need, I should be able to rely on the local doctors for help when needed out of hours. I had a pre booked app for 6pm and wasn’t seen until 6:40 with a newborn baby and a 9 year old in tow whilst in agony, no assistance was offered and the way my pain was played down by the prescribing staff member made me feel as though she wanted me in and out, she didn’t listen to what worked previously and I found her rude and abrupt. Whilst I’m fully aware of the stresses of the current strain on the NHS and very grateful we have it, I feel as though when someone comes to see someone for help, it should be given not treated like just a statistic and getting them our the door as quick as possible- and that exactly how I felt with the all of two minutes, I was in there- if it was any longer it was due to waiting for the printer because it jammed when she tried to print off a script that I didn’t even much need! They had a quick feel of my back, sad they saw nothing (you of course can’t see sciatic pain!) but I assume she was checking for the fall, but checked in the wrong place I told her I fell so just pressed very hard on my sciatic pain. When they saw ‘nothing’ I was palmed off with a lowest dose of codeine and told to try paracetamol and ibuprofen (which I explained doesn’t work for me as I have had this previously- she dismissed me and said “well it does work!”) I quickly left and was in tears following the ‘care’ I had received. I just needed some help and kindness that day and she couldn’t even off Unbothered and rudely interrupting me, I was sent away feeling worse than before I entered.

Listen to the person coming in regarding their issue. If they have a long standing or on/ off lifetime pain they deal with, then it shouldn’t be downplayed. Find out what they use previously to help them as that might just be the only lifeline they have that day. I had to return to work the next day after an evening of sorting three children out, doing night feeds as well as children’s tea’s and I didn’t get chance to rest- had she given me what I needed and what I explained to her that I knew worked, I wouldn’t be in this state of mind around the care that was given to me when I visited that day. I have no family or help and had to deal with this alone which is scary and unsettling. Luckily, I have since spoken with my doctors and have had this sorted to give me the correct care and medication required. They also informed me that the doctor/ nurse in question put down that I had ‘back pain’ on the records which of course was not the case and it was much more serious! They would have seen this if they were able to pull up my records or would have just taken the time and listened to me. I wouldn’t recommend nor return to the walk in centre unfortunately, due to the standard of care I have now experienced on multiple levels over the years of going for either myself or my children/ friends. The general staff seem lovely but the higher up it gets on who you see, I feel they are rude, abrupt and assuming. It’s a shame as it lets it down for others that are lovely there.

Because what I answered is true The nurse that saw me was very uncaring has she wouldn't let my friend in because she said that there wasn't enough space in the room and I needed her because I need her to speak for me has I get very frightend when I have to speak to anyone in authority and I feel she didn't listen to me and treated me like some one who is brain damaged and because I have a mental condition it was like she treating has some one who is an idiot and I'm not she had no empathy so it would be nice if I was treated like any body else

Be more more understanding and to be more caring has it has hard enough to cope with mental illness without cope ING with rude staff
