We were kept waiting for 2 hours in theclinic with no information on the d elay. Why?
I was seen in the new outpatient department in the basement of Chelsea and Westminster. It's a vast improvement on the other outpatient areas
The facilities are good and clean, and it's easy to find your way around. The unit has a coffee shop (doesnt take cards - a minor annoyance), is light and airy, has comfy seating and free wifi
Issues I have are:
They have a 'gate' system, I think meant to emulate an airport. You check in (via touch screen if preferred) and then sit down in the first waiting area. You then wait for your name to pop up on the screen telling you which 'gate' to go to. I think this is a little fiddly as presumably they could just say immediately 'if you're seeing Doctor X, then go to gate Y'.
Once you get to the 'gate', which is just a reception desk you're welcomed by a receptionist and asked to take a seat.
The reception isnt particularly good for patient confidentiality, there was a heated discussion between the reception and a patient when I was there which was essentially a public discussion because everyone was so close. At one point, and nurse came and told everyone queing to sit down and move away from the desk 'because of patient confidentiality'......she was right, but shouting at the patients who were just waiting where they were told to wasnt the best way to do it!
However, number one issue is that the clinic ran an hour and a half late. To be honest, it could be the nicest place in the world, but I'd never choose to wait there that long!
Gold standard for the NHS.
The staff was great with me apart from a rude female nurse! A huge thank you to Dr Warren and Nikki (Med student ), Marc and the NHS emergency Doctor was great and funny but i don't know his name!
I feel completely relaxed in the C/W Hospital. For the past 16yrs I have worked as a volunteer there with the Friends of C/W Hospital and I have always received excellent care. The staff are caring and professional. It's a wonderful hospital. It was very well run under Heather Lawrence and it appears that our new Chief Executive is going to carry on the same way. He is already highly respected by the people who have met him since he took over.
My partner is being treated for lymphoma and attends the Kobler day care centre. The staff are wonderful - I could name individuals who are stars, but they have all done so much to bring some normality back to our lives notwithstanding the rigours of dealing with a cancer diagnosis and of ensuing chemotherapy. they do a wonderful job in difficult circumstances.
I have attended the Kobler Clinic for over 2 years and have found the staff to be very helpful and supportive. I have not visited the new Day Care & In Patient centre as yet, but it is great that all the specialties of HIV, Cancer and Dermatology are in one area.
The only down side I have found is sometimes the members of staff who take bloods can be a bit unfriendly, perhaps they were having a bad day?
My Consultant is David Asboe who I have always found very helpful and is always willing to answer my questions - which at times have been quite involved. Dr Asboe continues to make me feel involved in my care, which is important to me.
I have had to go to the Kobler Day Care due to some issues had, and most recently as was diagnosed with lymphoma and my treatment is there. The new centre (they moved into it in Feb 2012) is large, modern and very pleasant.
The staff are quite amazing, and very caring and generous with their time. They are really incredible. This includes everyone from reception, the people who take blood to the nurses.
