This was a routine visit for an annual flu jab and although it,was a walk in session it was well organised with very little waiting time. Vert impressed.

Impossible to get an appointment, after a visit to the urgent care centre, where they referred me to my GP surgery, and spending more than one hour trying to contact the surgery, I visited in the hope of getting some kind of help. Nothing available, told to go home and telephone to go on to duty doctors call back system. The phone is still not answered! What am I to do? I have had pain for more than one week, as a pensioner I really try to avoid using the NHS.

I have often had to wait more than 5 mins for the phone to be picked up by a receptionist - this is too long! Recently, I was trying to get an appt for that day. I rang at 8am and after a few attempts I got through. I was then put on hold for 3-4 mins and when I finally got to speak to the receptionist all of the appointments for that day had already gone. That suggests to me that there aren't enough same day appts available. I saw the Minor Illness nurse but she had to disturb a doctor to confirm my treatment. I used to be really pleased to be part of a surgery that could offer same day appointments and it was easy to get through to but I don't feel that I can say that now. There is no difference with the excellent level of service offered by the medical staff but there is definitely a decline in the appointment making service. Please undo whatever has changed and go back to the old system. I now dread the hassle of making an appointment and the lottery of when you might get one.

My appointment was none urgent but the consultation was very professional and practical. However I did learn that the NHS is reactive and not proactive when it comes to following up existing conditions. This is understandable in present financial climate but can lead to crises management of issues in the short term. Proactive approach may be difficult but would probably lead to a better management of the health of the patient. As a diabetic I am fully aware of how necessary regular checkups at are helping me control my condition, however t seems this does not apply across the board with other coditions. This is not a criticism of my visit to my Surgery today but my view of NHS as it has become.
