Mr. Tomas Madura is a consultant plastic surgeon specialising in peripheral nerve and hand surgery. He has more than 20 years experience in the field and is based at the Birmingham Hand Centre and Peripheral Nerve Injury Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Mr. Madura is a fully accredited UK-trained plastic surgeon registered with the General Medical Council and he is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons and British Society for Surgery of the Hand. He treats the whole spectrum of peripheral nerve conditions including brachial plexus injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, nerve compression (carpal and cubital tunnel), nerve tumours, nerve-related pain after injury, reanimation of paralysis by nerve transfers and nerve grafting. Mr. Madura also holds the postgraduate diploma in hand surgery from the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and treats all the conditions affecting hand, with the most common being Dupuytren’s disease, arthritis of the wrist, thumb and fingers, trigger finger and conditions affecting tendons (such as De Quervain’s syndrome). His special clinical interests include complex microsurgical reconstructions of injuries to the upper extremity and hand and treatment of paralysis by transferring muscle from the leg to the arm (free functioning gracilis transfer).
