British Petroleum Company Scholar at Clare College, Cambridge reading Control Engineering. Graduated 1970. Worked for BP at Sunbury Research Centre and in the North Sea on Forties Field oil production platforms. In 1975, decided that a career in surgery would offer greater challenges ! Trained in Medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, qualifying in 1980. Subsequent basic surgical training at Charing Cross Hospital, London and at Singleton & Morriston Hospitals, Swansea. Specialist training in Orthopaedics & Trauma at The London Hospital, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham and St George’s Hospital, London. Fellowship in Knee & Arthroscopic surgery in Melbourne, Australia. Appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for South Bucks NHS Trust 1993. Busy NHS practice including trauma and elective orthopaedics shared with 12 consultant colleagues. Private rooms at the BMI Chiltern Hospital, Great Missenden. I have a special interest in arthroscopic knee surgery, lower limb joint replacement and in trauma. I enter all joint replacements in the National Joint Registry (NJR) database, which confirms the excellent outcomes achieved for my patients. I am Chair of BMA Buckinghamshire Division and Chair BMA Oxford Region Consultant's Committee. Representative on national BMA Consultants and Specialists Committee (CCSC). Recently elected as Member of Council of British Orthopaedic Association. MG MATTHEWS 05/13
