My husband was lucky enough to have his operation performed by Mr White. As a young family this was a worrying experience for us. However, Mr White's kind and caring approach, clear explanations using a model and scans, allowed him to quickly gained our trust. Although my husband was his patient, he treated us as a family and engaged me into the consultation and responded all of my worries and concerns. He even called me immediately after surgery to explain how the operation went. Thankfully the operation was a success and we are immensely grateful to Mr White. Despite the extreme pressures of the NHS, Mr White and his team we able to provide first class care, compassion and service - I would certainly recommend them.

The distinguished reputation of Mr Barrie White precedes him in the world of Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery. It is difficult to entrust somebody with your life and limb but Mr White made this easy for my wife and I, by instilling a great deal of confidence, based on sound explanation that was easy to understand and a proven track record of surgical excellence. His bedside manner was exemplary, he listened, cared and delivered. I was in agonising pain and unable to walk or sleep. Mr White and his assistant Sister Cotes operated on my spine to relieve me of this pain and get me back onto my feet. I believe Mr White is an asset to his department, an outstanding role model for all doctors and I highly recommend him.

Mr White explained my condition in great detail and explained all the risks. I had and have complete confidence in him.He personally telephoned my husband after the op and when after having being home for a few weeks I experienced pain he saw me immediately and readmitted me to hospital. Again he explained the situation fully and I had further surgery. I saw him constantly and he treated me with great kindness. When I returned home he made sure I had his email address and urged me to contact him if I had any concerns. When I was anxious and contacted him I got an immediate response which put my mind at rest. I feel very lucky to have been under his care and feel sure that without him I would have been in a wheelchair for the rest of my life rather than looking forward to a full recovery. Words cannot express my gratitude.

Mr White has advised and treated me for a spinal cord problem over the years and as the problem worsened operated on me in September 2014. He explained carefully and diligently the risks and possible advantages/disadvantages of the operation. After the operation he and the staff in the post operative ward were magnificent. The subsequent follow up and assessments of my progress have been first class and he has been at pains to alleviate my subsequent worries over the speed of my progress. He has always been very approachable and caring. The only critical comments I have refer only to the less than good nursing care and professionalism experienced on transfer from the post op unit and the lamentable delays experienced in typing up and mailing out Mr White's reports to my doctor and myself.

In August 2014 Mr. White operated on a spinal tumour. He explained the seriousness and urgency of the operation and also outlined the risks involved. Due to his skills I am now well on the way to a full recovery. Thanks are due to Mr. White and also all his team, especially Laurie for her support and understanding and Staff Nurse Lisa on the high dependency unit.
