Left shoulder reverse construction, 78 year old male: Dr Desai has left me pain free and I am now able to sleep at night. He explained the procedure thoroughly to me and the surgery went really well - it was clear he is an expert in his field. My recovery has been excellent - aided by fantastic nurses and physio. I saw Dr Desai with a significant Dupuytren's contracture to my right ring finger. He listened carefully to my questions and concerns. He explained what surgery I would need along with the risks. He acknowledged the severity of my condition and professionally told me that he wouldn't carry out the surgery and kindly referred me to his colleagues at the Hand Centre at Royal Derby Hospital, who have since successfully carried out a fasciectomy on my hand. My hand is precious to me and I am so grateful to Dr Desai for being honest with me and for referring me to the specialists at Derby Hospital who are also able to do plastic surgery, although luckily I didn't require a skin graft in the end.

Mr Desai has taken great care of my shoulder health following a fall I had a while ago. As soon as it became apparent that I needed to have surgery on it, he thoroughly examined all the options available to me and contacted other specialists in this field to make sure he recommended the most suitable treatment. When he recommended a reverse shoulder replacement I had every confidence in his advice. The procedure date was sensitively set to accommodate my work commitments. I was nervous as the day arrived but the staff at St. Hugh’s allayed my concerns and made me feel at ease. The anaesthetist was especially helpful and attentive. Mr Desai came to see me on the ward when I came round to tell me the operation had been a success. I spent the night in hospital and received excellent care from the nursing staff and physiotherapist the next day. I left feeling confident that I had the correct medication and exercises to complete my recovery at home. I have experienced the same outstanding treatment in subsequent physiotherapy sessions with Simi and consultations Mr Desai. My husband even commented on the professionalism of everyone we have met. Thanks to Mr Desai and his team I now have a shoulder that I can use effectively.
