The patient needs to be clear about how the symptoms came about, how they currently affect them, any previous incidences which may be relevant and any circumstances that might shed light on what s going on e.g. drug change, lifestyle change etc. Dr Latif is an open-minded good listener with solid experience and vision to guide the discussion to specific pathways (happy to take no for an answer and try some other tack). I found he was interested in treating my immediate symptoms and also ordering tests to identify any possible underlying issues (e.g. blood tests). I cannot think of how the appointment might have had a better outcome. On a personal note I would prefer that any doctors'/nurses' valuable time is not wasted coming to meet and greet patients; there is technology designed to do this role. Those precious minutes between appointments can be used to ensure admin is properly completed, or just as a moment of respite - much needed when dealing with people and their diverse needs over a long shift. I also question this mode of feedback, it almost implies that patients should be focusing on what can 'be improved' rather than the positives, as someone with personal experience of this data collection management method - perpetual student and management scrutiny raises unrealistic expectations in both. I suggest we keep what is essentially a 'like/thumbs up' for Facebook. Consideration might also be given to the encouraging statement below ('Great, keep going') which is condescending at the least. Nor am I going to request updates about this GP, that's for Twitter fans (I'm not one) and it's none of my business. Finally, I was seen 20 minutes after my appointment time (not the GP's fault), do I care? No because I am privileged to have access to free-at-the-point-of-delivery NHS care delivered by (for the greatest part of the time) excellent people. I hope that my comments re this feedback system in terms of its approach to medical staff and patients are given the time I gave to compiling them.

Anyone visiting the Dr wishes to have good interactions - and Dr Latif did all the right things as far as I was concerned - he listened to me, asked questions, offered an escort to join us whilst he examined me, checked how I felt about his suggestions, made a hospital appointment date for me directly and reassured me. He printed off my appointment letter and read through the main details with me - an excellent and thorough visit as far as I was concerned. Very happy patient.

Profile

I am a newly qualified GP who is enthusiastic and passionate about delivering excellent patient care. I recognise the challenges facing our noble profession and I am optimistic about the future. I engage patients fully in their care and involve them in decision making. I strive to practice holistically. I think it is crucial in every consultation to explore patients' ideas, concerns and expectations as well as the impact their problem/s is having on their life.
I am striving not to become a good GP but an excellent one. I welcome patient feedback in order to improve my practice.
