Dr Balaji was my anaesthetist for my recent laparoscopic double inguinal hernia surgery. This was my first experience of general anaesthesia since I underwent a tonsillectomy over sixty years ago, so I was slightly nervous. I needn't have been. Dr Balaji explained what was involved, patiently fielded my questions and was a reassuring presence as I waited for the procedure to commence. The anaesthetic was certainly effective - I went out like a light and knew nothing more til I woke up in my recovery bed. I had been prepared for the possibility of post-anaesthesia side effects - confusion, nausea, headaches, dizziness, fatigue to name but a few - but all these were conspicuously absent and I felt perfectly well and had no after-effects whatsoever. So whatever mix I was given seems to have worked splendidly and, should I require any future surgery, I shall ask if Dr Balaji will kindly act as my anaesthetist again!
